Earlier in 2021, North Shore BMW in Sydney opened its new Accredited BMW Bodyshop that has been designed to handle repairs on electric vehicles after an accident as BMW launches a wave of new zero emissions models in Australia.
The accident repair centre covers 3,000 square metres and boasts the latest in equipment, technology and paint and panel systems. It has the full capability and tooling to repair all aspects of conventionally powered vehicles alongside allocated stations for the comprehensive repair of EVs.
The facility is fully integrated with BMW Group Australia’s implementation of a globally-certified training program that equips technicians with the ability to repair BMW Group vehicles to a ‘beyond OEM standard’.
In addition to its repair services, North Shore BMW Bodyshop plans to install two high capacity EV chargers fed by 32-amp power supply to ensure it can accommodate current electric vehicles and also those set for future introduction, including the BMW iX, iX3 and i4.
North Shore BMW Bodyshop’s use of the cutting edge Glasurit 100 Line paint system, which uses a waterborne basecoat application, additionally delivers a superior finish while keeping environmental considerations at the forefront.
Glenn O’Donnell, General Manager of North Shore BMW Bodyshop, said the new facility was the result of a long and thorough development that was also mindful of the future and evolving requirements.
“We spent two years developing this site and at every step we were fully aware of what we needed to have in place to support customer needs in line with a fast-changing industry,” Mr O’Donnell said.
“We are proud to currently have 14 full-time staff with support from BMW’s globally-certified training programs, which allows us to remain at the leading edge of technology and deliver a factory standard level of repair for our customers now and in the years to come.”
Mr O’Donnell said North Shore BMW Bodyshop currently repaired more than 20 vehicles per week with the capacity to complete up to 40 as the facility expanded.
Dr Reiner Meierbeck, BMW Group Australia head of Aftersales, said North Shore BMW Bodyshop was a prominent addition to the growing national network of Accredited BMW Bodyshops.
“Glenn and his team have done an outstanding job of creating and investing in a very impressive facility that addresses existing requirements but also has a very clear eye on the future with dedicated EV infrastructure and commitment to addressing shifting customer needs,” Dr Meierbeck said.
