At the media launch of the new Ford E-Transit, Ford also outlined their plans to provide Fleet Managers with several electric vehicles over the next few years.
Andrew Birkic, President and CEO of Ford Australia and New Zealand, confirmed the Mach-E and the Puma will be the passenger models that loyal Ford fleet customers can start including in their electric vehicle transition plans.
“The All-Electric Puma, an incredibly exciting entry into the light SUV segment, will be coming down under,” stated Birkic. “With this addition, we’ve now confirmed four of Ford’s best battery electric vehicles; the E-Transit, E-Transit Custom, All-Electric Puma and Mustang Mach-E – for our local customers.”
Part of the changing model range is the cessation of the Ford Escape which will be discontinued in 2023. This is includes the PHEV model which was being considered as an option for some loyal Ford fleet customers.
“As part of running our business, we sometimes need to make difficult decisions on vehicles that will leave our line-up so we can continue to focus on areas of strength,” explained Birkic. “With this in mind, we have decided that Escape will depart our Australian line-up by the end of this year. We have not taken this decision lightly, and we recognise and thank the many loyal customers who have chosen Escape over the years.”
The Mustang Mach-E is the most exciting new electric vehicle in the line up with fleets around the world posting images as they roll out in the U.S. (NYC Police) and Europe (London Ambulance Service).
With Ford Transit being the best selling van in the world, it makes sense launch this popular commercial vehicle with an electric powertrain. And giving last mile delivery drivers in Australia a zero emission option with a recognised brand, should allow Ford to capture a large number of early adopters.
