Leading EV charging infrastructure company EVX has worked with the City of Sydney and Ausgrid to deploy nine EV chargers across the streets of Sydney. The new kerbside chargers are a critical addition to the city’s EV charging network.
The Australian-made EVX Polecharger has been designed to meet the challenges utility providers and local governments face in building EV charging infrastructure sustainably. The chargers have been deployed across inner city areas including Millers Point, Dawes Point, Pyrmont, Newtown, Camperdown, Darlinghurst, Alexandria, Rosebery and Glebe.
“We’re proud of this partnership and are thrilled to be able to supply such a crucial component of our community’s EV charging needs. Areas of urban Sydney with little or no off-street parking will greatly benefit from this fundamental infrastructure, and these new chargers have been strategically located to serve these communities,”EVX CEO, Andrew Forster said.
Sydney’s first power pole-mounted EV charging point, also powered by EVX, has been in operation in Glebe since February. EVX uses cutting-edge technology in its long-dwell (where EVs are parked for at least 1-2 hours) chargers, giving drivers access to infrastructure that is crucial to promoting and accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles. The technology makes it easier and more convenient for people to charge their vehicles using green energy.
“Areas of densely urban Sydney have been crying out for this infrastructure and these new chargers have been strategically located to serve communities with little or no off-street parking who can’t simply ‘fill up’ their EVs in a personal garage or car spot.
“With over 8% of new cars sold in Australia now EVs, a rapid scale-up of charging infrastructure is going to become more important. Being able to install these new chargers in just a week shows that rapid deployment of new kerbside charging infrastructure is possible to meet the rising demand,” Forster added.
The fully Australian-owned and developed EVX Polecharger has been designed from the ground up to meet the challenges utility providers and local governments face in rolling out EV charging infrastructure quickly while adhering to local electrical and planning regulations. The unique EVX Polecharger solution suits parallel street parking in residential areas where users may not have access to off-street parking or power capacity in their apartment complex for EV charging.
Commenting on the roll out of EV charging infrastructure, Forster adds that the speed of public charging infrastructure (to date) isn’t keeping up with demand:
“We need to be ready for the increase in uptake over the next decade. Pole-mounted chargers are a no-brainer when it comes to the rapid deployment of EV charging infrastructure, particularly in Australian cities where aboveground electricity infrastructure is the norm.”
