When Hertz launched announced they were making electric vehicles available for Australian customers, it gave us a chance to ask Damien Shaw, General Manager at Hertz AU/NZ, some questions about their long term plans for a fleet of electric vehicles and how they plan to deal with the challenges.
Shaw explains how the typical rental customer is using their vehicles and the possible synergies created when the cars are used during the day and returned at night for charging. Though charging every vehicle in the fleet at an airport rental location overnight will require some planning and infrastructure.
One interesting statistic is the vehicle to charge point ratio. In the U.S., Hertz works on one charger for every 12 vehicles. Shaw thinks in Australia, they will need one charger for every five vehicles.
