In an Australian-first, a brand new state-of-the-art solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging station has opened for public use in one of the city’s major thoroughfares, Parramatta Road in Burwood, at MTA NSW’ headquarters.
An initiative of The Motor Traders’ Association of New South Wales (MTA NSW), in partnership with the National Renewable Network (NRN) and Wallbox, the launch marks the latest in a series of steps by the organisation to help increase EV adoption.
The charging station will provide easy access for drivers and according to Stavros Yallouridis, CEO of MTA NSW, the news is a win for both locals and visitors.
“We are thrilled to unveil this next generation of electric vehicle chargers which will be powered by solar energy and provide the public with a high-quality, cutting-edge charging solution,” he said.
“Increasing the accessibility of charging stations and improving EV infrastructure is crucial in promoting the uptake of EVs and fuel-efficient vehicles in Australia.”
Designed by world-leading clean-energy infrastructure company Wallbox, the new charging station consists of a ‘Supernova’ 60kW charger with split-charge, allowing two vehicles to be charged at the same time. This device is composed of six 10kW modules that work together to provide maximum power while maintaining their operational independence. The charger is capable of adding up to 100 kilometres of range to a battery in under fifteen minutes.

The Supernova is among Wallbox’s most successful products, with over 1,000 units being sold in 32 countries since launching in 2022, and has won multiple awards including the prestigious iF Product Design Award, one of the most important design prizes in the world.
Highlighting MTA NSW’ focus on sustainability, the organisation has installed rooftop solar panels designed to offset the energy output of the chargers, with the setup being made possible through a partnership with the National Renewable Network. This setup is helping both the MTA and those who use the EV charger drive towards a greener future for NSW’s motor trades sector.

EV drivers can now take advantage of the new charging station at the headquarters of MTA NSW, located at 214 Parramatta Rd, Burwood NSW 2134, Australia.
