Sam Korkees, Co-founder of EVSE, shared his insights at the 2024 Electro Mobility Summit in Auckland, describing New Zealand as “the ideal EV conditions” due to high petrol costs and relatively inexpensive electricity. He highlighted that “the total cost of ownership piece here is very pronounced,” making EVs more accessible and affordable in New Zealand than ever before. Despite some public concern about the potential withdrawal of government incentives, Korkees observed that EV prices and charging costs are “cheaper than they’ve ever been.”
Korkees acknowledged New Zealand’s strong EV infrastructure, allowing for “easy travel down the major highways and charge in the metros.” He praised the public’s positive attitude toward EVs but noted they were “hurt by what the government did around… the road user taxes.”
Looking forward, Korkees emphasized EVSE’s commitment to “deliver advanced solutions,” integrating EV chargers into building energy supplies and supporting “smart homes” and “smart buildings of the future.” EVSE aims to bring these Australian-developed innovations to New Zealand, expanding the scope of their services.
