Porsche has electrified its best-selling model in Australia, with the new EV-only Macan range landing in dealerships from December.
The four-model lineup features similar technology to the Taycan, but does away with the two-speed differential found on its stablemate, built atop Porsche’s 800-volt Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture.
Performance is up across the range, with the base rear-wheel drive model producing up to 265kW/563Nm, the 4 making 300kW/650Nm, the 4S putting down 380kW/820Nm and the range-topping Turbo upping the ante with 470kW/1130Nm – putting most supercars to shame.
The Turbo model offers performance as rapid as its power output suggests, with a claimed 3.3-second 0-100km/h time.
Interestingly, all four models feature a 100kWh battery, allowing for a seriously impressive driving range of between 654km in the base model and 616km in the all-out Turbo. Charging is also brisk, with Porsche claiming a 10 to 80 percent time of around 20 minutes when tapping into the full 270kW fast-charge capability.
With the increase in performance, technology and of course the clean credentials, comes a fairly significant price hike with the base rear-wheel drive Macan model starting at $128,400 – around $30,000 more than the outgoing generation’s base option.
Pricing continues to climb with the all-wheel drive Macan 4 coming in at $134,400, while the more potent Macan 4S jumps to $149,300. For those wanting the ultimate electric Macan, and let’s be honest it outshines and outperforms just about every other electric SUV on paper (we can’t share how it drives just yet), the Macan Turbo is priced at $184,400 plus on-road costs.
Despite a cooling of the EV market in Australia across 2024, Porsche executives maintain that electric-only is the right move for the Macan lineup, claiming strong interest out of the gate with both existing and new customers.
“Order intake is currently ahead of our initial expectations for the new all-electric Macan at this point in time,” said a Porsche Australia spokesperson.
“Existing owners have shown a keen interest in transitioning to the electric Macan, however so far we have also seen many new customers who may not have previously considered Porsche, particularly those intrigued by electric vehicles and seeking a premium, luxury SUV experience.”
