BYD has announced that its new all-electric Sealion 7 performance SUV model will launch in Australia mid-February, offering a compelling Tesla Model Y alternative for fleets.
The Sealion 7 will be priced at under $60,000 for the Premium variant, the company has confirmed, sitting above the popular plug-in hybrid Sealion 6 within BYD’s local lineup.
While power figures are yet to be confirmed for the Australian models, the Sealion 7 will use BYD’s Blade Battery technology and will be capable of accelerating to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds.
According to BYD, the Sealion 7 will offer a driving range of more than 500 kilometres and features vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology. Charging capabilities are yet to be disclosed, though.
A suite of driver-assistance technology has been confirmed for the Sealion 7, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking and a 360-degree camera system.
“I expect the SEALION 7 to be the number one selling electric vehicle in our range,” said EVDirect CEO, David Smitherman.
“It sets a new standard for innovation and technology, and I challenge anyone to find a vehicle designed with comfort and performance like this one.
“It really does have the feel of a luxury car, and we aim to deliver really competitive pricing across the variants that will make this an enticing prospect for Australian drivers.”
Expressions of interest are now being taken online, but specific pricing details are yet to be revealed.
