Tyre inflation kits have replaced full size spare tyres in most new cars and feedback from several Fleet Managers suggests it a source of anxiety with drivers that regularly travel to regional areas.
The inflation kits are technical to use and would not fill many people with confidence that the repair is successful enough to deliver them home safely. However, they do save weight which reduce fuel consumption and they also save space which allows designers to give owner more boot space.
Hyundai have taken steps to address the concerns of fleet buyers by including a space saver spare tyre in the all-new Kona EV. They claim it’s the first electric car in its segment to come standard with a spare tyre.
Including a spare tyre will give Fleet Managers one less question to answer during the staff education phase of their transition to low and zero emission fleet vehicles.
