Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled the IONIQ 9, its latest flagship electric SUV, showcasing a commitment to innovation and sustainability in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. Launched at Los Angeles’ Goldstein House, a mid-century modern architectural icon, the IONIQ 9 combines futuristic design with advanced EV technology, setting a new benchmark for the market.
A Spacious and Flexible Design
The IONIQ 9 is a three-row SUV offering unparalleled interior space and comfort. Its flat floor design and innovative seating configurations make it a standout. Relaxation Seats in the first two rows can fully recline, and second-row Swivelling Seats enable face-to-face interaction for a more communal experience. The slidable Universal Island 2.0 console adds versatility with expanded storage and accessibility.
With seating for up to seven passengers and 620 litres of luggage capacity (expandable to 1,323 litres), the IONIQ 9 is built for both convenience and comfort. Sustainability is also at the core of its design, incorporating eco-friendly materials like recycled PET fabrics, bio-based paints, and wool fabrics throughout the interior.
Cutting-Edge Technology and Performance
Underpinned by Hyundai’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the IONIQ 9 boasts impressive specifications. Its 110.3 kWh battery delivers an estimated 620 km range (WLTP), and its advanced architecture enables rapid charging from 10 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes with a 350 kW charger.
Performance options include rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, with the top-tier Performance AWD model accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds. Hyundai has also integrated intelligent energy-saving systems, such as an optimised climate control system and over-the-air updates, ensuring that the vehicle stays ahead of technological advancements.
Futuristic Styling Meets Aerodynamic Efficiency
The IONIQ 9’s ‘Aerosthetic’ design combines sleek aesthetics with aerodynamic innovation, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.259 when equipped with digital side mirrors. Signature design elements like Parametric Pixel lighting, a streamlined roofline, and flush body panels highlight Hyundai’s dedication to modern EV design.
The SUV is offered in 16 exterior colour options, including unique new hues like Celadon Gray Matte and Cosmic Blue Pearl, paired with two-tone interior colour schemes for customisation.
Safety and Connectivity Features
Hyundai has equipped the IONIQ 9 with a suite of advanced safety features, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist. Ten airbags and a reinforced body structure further enhance passenger safety.
Connectivity is equally robust, with AI-powered voice assistance, a panoramic curved display, and Hyundai’s Features on Demand service allowing for personalised digital upgrades. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality and high-capacity USB-C ports extend the vehicle’s usability beyond driving, enabling it to power appliances and devices.
Global Rollout in 2025
The IONIQ 9 will launch in Korea and the United States in early 2025, with plans for European and other markets later. With its blend of style, sustainability, and advanced technology, the IONIQ 9 promises to redefine electric mobility for families and EV enthusiasts alike.
