I’m frequently told that I need to sell, not tell people my ideas. I understand the point, but doesn’t that take extra time? I can see the solution, why can’t everyone else?
This is the same problem people are having with electric vehicles. The early adopters get it, but there’s lots of other parties spreading fake news that is influencing the opinions of the masses.
The media (mainstream and social) didn’t help over the Christmas break with images of EVs queueing to get access to a charger in regional locations. These drivers bought EVs before everyone else so people would look at them. Waiting in a queue with other EV owners is the perfect vacation.
So how do you convince people that they don’t need an EV with a range of 800 kilometres? Here’s my top 5 ideas to help people understand that they can live with an electric vehicle in the family.
- Send them on an errand 300 kilometres away.
- Get them to drive an EV for a week then take it back.
- Ask them to divide their annual kilometres travelled by 365.
- Get them to count the number of powerpoints in their house.
- Invite them to your Life360 family circle to see where they go.
If these tips seem blunt then maybe you’re not ready for the transition. Change hurts and people don’t like it. But don’t worry, with the average age of cars in Australia climbing towards 11 years, petrol and diesel cars will be around for a long time to keep the Luddites mobile.
