Just weeks after MG Motor Australia announced its support of the Federal Government’s Impact Analysis for the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES), the automaker has slashed the price of its MG4, XPower and ZS EV models.
MG has moved its entire EV range to nationwide drive-away pricing, with both the base model MG4 Excite 51 and ZS EV Excite reduced to $39,990 inclusive of on-road costs – making them the cheapest EVs in Australia.
“We are serious about our commitment to support the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard and once again, MG is putting customers first by ensuring everyone can access a wide range of affordable zero emission vehicles thanks to reduced nationwide drive away pricing on the entire MG4 range including XPOWER as well as the ZS EV,” said MG Motor Australia CEO, Peter Ciao.
“MG has been leading the charge with electric for everyone since the launch of the ZS EV and multi award-winning MG4 (Carsales Car Of The Year, Gizmodo Australia’s Top EV of 23 and Motoring Writers Guild New Zealand Car of the Year), with reduced drive away pricing Australia wide.”
Buyers in certain states, like Queensland with its $6,000 rebate on EVs under $68,000, have been able to use incentives to off-set on-road costs. Victorian buyers, by contrast, simply receive $100 off their registration fee each year – hardly enough to make an EV affordable.
MG Motors Australia made the move to equalise the EV playing field between states and territories due to the varying government incentives for zero-emission vehicles, with drive-away pricing that is fixed across the country.
“In a market where customers are becoming increasingly aware of their finances, providing transparency on the final cost customers will pay for buying an EV and for servicing is very important, that’s why MG has made the move to offer both to customers with no hidden costs,” said Mr Ciao.
“Customers like choices. We want them to be empowered to have the freedom to drive a SUV or a hatch, which is why we are offering both the MG4 51kWh Excite and ZS EV Excite at under $40k drive away.
“Whenever we are able to pass price reductions like this onto our customers, we will make sure we do.”
MG offers the same capped-price servicing program for its entire range, locking the price of maintenance for the first seven years, while also offering a seven year/unlimited kilometre warranty.
“With our ZS EV and MG4, there is no oil to change, no engine to maintain and with less consumable parts, this also means less labour costs which means electric cars are cost effective, quieter and easier to maintain than an internal combustion engine vehicle,” said Mr Ciao.
