The latest new car sales figures from the FCAI were released last week and it shows that in 2023, more Australians have purchased an electric vehicle than a hybrid.
In July, there were more hybrids delivered. They may overtake electric vehicles before the end of the year, though it’s such an interesting statistic for Fleet Managers to note considering range is still a barrier for many fleets considering a transition to electric vehicles.
Here are the sales figures as of July 2023:
- Hybrid vehicles – 48,009
- Electric vehicles – 49,938
Tesla have certainly had an impact with the increase volumes of Model Y and Model 3 adding the EV sales. And the delayed deliveries of RAV4 hybrids for fleet buyers would be softening the hybrid numbers.
It will be worthwhile reviewing at the end of this year to see how the battle for powertrain supremacy (Toyota v Tesla) is panning out.
