On my first drive of the MG4 at the launch it was two drivers per car and the other journalist (a better driver than me) had the pleasure of testing the MG4 through the curves and undulations of the winding roads of the national park south of Sydney.
Neither of us realised, until the tyres and suspension of MG4 were pushed to their limits, that it was rear wheel drive. It was an ‘OH SHIT!’ moment. I supposed we should have read the press release before arriving at the launch.
After decades of driving front wheel drive small cars, it was euphoric to spend a week in a rear wheel drive small hatchback (the EV part was a bonus). I might be overselling it, but you really notice the difference in the handling and vehicle dynamics.
I’m not sure that I’ve made this point strong enough in the video so that’s why it’s in this pre-amble. Watch and enjoy with the additional knowledge that the MG4 is rear wheel drive.
