The updated XPENG G6 electric SUV will arrive in Australian showrooms during July with four variants, faster charging capability and a broader choice of rear- and all-wheel-drive models.
The revised G6 continues to use an 800-volt electrical architecture and adds what XPENG describes as 5C ultra-fast charging across the range. The update also brings revised exterior styling, additional cabin technology and a new Black Edition flagship.
Four variants confirmed
The Australian line-up will consist of:
- G6 RWD Standard Range, with up to 480km of WLTP range
- G6 RWD Long Range, with up to 525km
- G6 AWD Performance, with up to 510km
- G6 AWD Performance Black Edition, with up to 510km
The Standard Range produces 185kW and 440Nm, while the Long Range increases output to 218kW. The AWD Performance variants produce 358kW and 660Nm, with a claimed 0–100km/h time of 4.13 seconds.
The Black Edition shares its battery, powertrain, range and charging specifications with the regular AWD Performance. Its changes are cosmetic, including black paint, black 20-inch wheels, smoked exterior badging and trim, and black brake calipers.
Faster DC charging
All four variants support high-power DC charging, with XPENG claiming a 10–80 per cent charging time of as little as 12 minutes under test conditions.
Peak charging power reaches 451kW on models fitted with the larger battery, while the Standard Range supports up to 382kW.
Access to those charging speeds will depend on the output of the charging station, as well as battery temperature, state of charge and operating conditions.
An 11kW AC onboard charger and vehicle-to-load capability of up to 6kW are also included. Claimed energy consumption starts at 16.6kWh/100km.
Updated cabin technology
The new G6 features a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display.
Equipment includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, over-the-air software updates, dual wireless phone charging and an 18-speaker XOPERA audio system.
Available features include Nappa leather-appointed trim and heated, ventilated and massaging front seats.
Driver-assistance equipment
Australian-specification vehicles will be offered with XPILOT Assist features including adaptive cruise control, lane centring, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert.
The system also includes lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, rear collision warning, traffic-sign recognition and a surround-view camera with a transparent chassis display.
XPENG says feature availability remains subject to final Australian specifications.
The updated G6 reflects a broader shift in the electric vehicle market, with manufacturers competing on charging speed, energy efficiency and software as much as driving range. The Xjpeng 6 gives fleets another mid-size electric SUV option for passenger, management and salary-packaging applications.
