BMW Australia has given itself a pat on the back, outlining sales growth in a downward trending market with its BEV range leading the charge.
According to BMW’s local arm, registrations to the end of September were up 3.2 percent compared with the same period in 2023, but sales of the company’s battery-powered models are up 202 percent – with 5562 EV sales this year against 1869 to the same point last year.
BMW now offers 16 fully electric variants – the most of any manufacturer in Australia – with six of these priced below $91,387, exempting them from both Luxury Car Tax (LCT) for fuel efficient vehicles and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) for fleet operators.
One of the BMWs priced below the key thresholds, the iX1, has enjoyed a particularly successful run since its introduction mid-last year with 1,948 registrations this year alone – outselling its petrol X1 stablemates. The iX1 is now the best-selling BEV within the BMW line-up.
Sales of the BMW iX3, now offered in entry level M Sport guise with a sub-LCT price position, are also up 33 per cent year-to-date with 794 units registered.
BMW now maintains third position for fully-electric sales, but its lineup is still offered with ICE, mild- and plug-in hybrid powertrains across models – as the manufacturer adopts a somewhat agnostic powertrain approach.
