MG Motor Australia has confirmed its MGU9 EV electric ute will arrive locally from the fourth quarter of 2026, offering fleet buyers a 430km WLTP range, 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity and dual-motor all-wheel drive.
Priced from $78,990 plus on-road costs, the MGU9 EV will be Australia’s first launch of the new model globally. It expands the electric ute market with a vehicle positioned for both everyday driving and lifestyle use.
The MGU9 EV is powered by a 102.2kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and produces 325kW and 700Nm. MG claims it can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 5.8 seconds.
For fleets, the headline capability is its 3,500kg braked towing capacity. However, operators will need to assess whether the 685kg payload is suitable once occupants, accessories, cargo and towball download are included.
A 236-litre front storage compartment provides additional secure carrying capacity, while vehicle-to-load functionality can supply up to 6.6kW through external outlets. This could support tools, equipment and temporary worksites without requiring a separate generator.
The MGU9 EV supports 11kW AC charging and DC charging at up to 115kW. MG says charging from 20 to 80 per cent takes approximately 42 minutes.
While the 115kW maximum is modest compared with some of the latest passenger EVs, many fleet operators will focus more heavily on overnight depot or home charging. The large battery will require appropriate charging infrastructure and sufficient dwell time, particularly for vehicles travelling longer daily distances.
Four-wheel electronic air suspension is standard, while the cabin includes dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger and an eight-speaker JBL sound system.
The driver’s seat includes heating, ventilation and massage functions, reflecting MG’s positioning of the vehicle as a combination of full-size ute practicality and SUV-style comfort.
Dimitri Andreatidis, Marketing Director at MG Motor Australia, said the vehicle gave Australian buyers another powertrain choice without sacrificing the versatility expected from a ute.
“A full-electric ute offers another choice and, importantly, allows Australians to make the move to electric without giving up the versatility they value in a ute,” Andreatidis said.

For fleet operators, its appeal will depend on more than the headline range and towing figure. Payload requirements, charging access, daily utilisation and whole-of-life costs will determine whether the MGU9 EV can replace an existing diesel ute or is better suited to passenger, supervisory and mixed business-and-personal roles.
