Subaru Australia has developed a spare wheel kit and towbar for the all-electric Trailseeker, addressing two practical considerations for fleets and drivers travelling beyond metropolitan areas.
The Trailseeker is Subaru’s first large all-electric, all-terrain wagon and combines a 280kW dual-motor powertrain with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, X-Mode and 211mm of ground clearance.
Its driving range of up to 533km* and spacious wagon body position it for organisations whose vehicles need to cover urban, regional and unsealed-road driving.
The locally developed Underfloor Spare Wheel Kit packages a space-saver wheel beneath the cargo floor, preserving the vehicle’s luggage capacity. It can be fitted to new orders and Trailseekers already on the road.
For fleet operators, the availability of a spare wheel may be particularly valuable when vehicles travel through regional or remote locations where roadside assistance could involve lengthy delays.
Subaru has also introduced a purpose-engineered towbar for the Trailseeker. It provides a braked towing capacity of 1,500kg and an unbraked capacity of 750kg, expanding the electric wagon’s suitability for recreational equipment and light operational towing.
“What we’re hearing from customers is that Trailseeker offers something genuinely different,” Inchcape Australasia Managing Director Blair Read said.
“They love the idea of an EV that still feels ready for a weekend away, a road trip or an adventure beyond the city limits.”
Read said the combination of driving range, all-wheel-drive capability and the new accessories meant Australian drivers did not need to compromise on capability when moving to an electric vehicle.
The Trailseeker’s dual-motor system can accelerate the vehicle from zero to 100km/h in approximately 4.5 seconds. However, its more important attributes for fleet buyers may be its range, ground clearance, cargo capacity and ability to accommodate towing and spare-wheel requirements.
These additions help broaden the Trailseeker’s appeal beyond traditional urban EV applications. They could make it relevant to government, utilities, regional service providers and other organisations requiring an electric vehicle with greater versatility.
