The Business Electric Vehicle Charger Pilot from the ACT Government is available to assist businesses to purchase and install EV charging infrastructure on their premises.
The Pilot will provide eligible businesses with rebates of up to 50% of the cost (capped at $3,000 excluding GST) for the purchase and installation of EV charging infrastructure at their business premises. The Pilot is funded for $90,000 for the 2023-24 financial year.
About the program
The Business Electric Vehicle Charger Pilot aims to reduce barriers to EV uptake and encourage businesses in the ACT to transition their existing petrol and diesel fleet vehicles to EVs.
The Pilot will support businesses to transition to EVs by overcoming uncertainty about the installation of smart EV chargers for their business.
Who can take part
The rebate is available for eligible businesses based in the ACT that operate or subcontract fleet vehicles. A full list of the eligibility criteria is available in the Terms and Conditions [1.3 MB].
How to apply
To apply, please send an expression of interest to the Fleet Advisory Service mailbox at EPSDD.FleetAdvisory@act.gov.au, or give us a call on 13 22 81. You will need to complete a pre-approval form [203.3 KB] which must be approved by ACT Government before you commit or sign any contract or quote to install chargers. Once your charger(s) are installed, you can submit a rebate claim form [201.5 KB] to receive your rebate.
Why it’s important
One of the main barriers for businesses to transition their fleet to EVs is access to on-demand chargers on their premises. It is cheaper and more convenient for businesses to charge electric fleet vehicles on premises, rather than at public charging stations.
However, the added upfront cost of installing charging infrastructure can be a barrier for many businesses. This Pilot will support more businesses to transition their fleets to EVs by enabling them to install chargers at their premises.
EVs are cheaper to run than petrol or diesel alternatives. They also take advantage of the ACT’s 100% renewable electricity and produce zero emissions when they are used. EVs are approaching price parity with petrol and diesel competitors. This means the business case to transition fleet vehicles to EVs is becoming stronger.
Transport accounts for more than 60% of the ACT’s annual greenhouse gas emissions. To reach our goal of net zero emissions by 2045, we need to significantly reduce transport emissions.
A significant number of new vehicles enter business fleets each year and are driven every day. This means transitioning ACT business fleets to EVs can help us make a big reduction in our emissions.
