Fleet News Group has announced the launch of the 2026 Fleet News Group Awards, a new industry program designed to recognise excellence in fleet management and vehicle suitability for fleet operations across Australia.
The awards program will highlight organisations and professionals that are delivering measurable improvements in safety, efficiency, sustainability and operational performance through better fleet management.
At the centre of the program is the Fleet of the Year Award, which will recognise an organisation that demonstrates a high level of maturity in the way it manages its fleet assets.
Rather than focusing on fleet size or vehicle purchases, the award will recognise organisations that take a structured and strategic approach to fleet management.
Recognising fleet management maturity
The Fleet of the Year Award is designed to identify organisations that have moved beyond basic fleet administration and developed mature fleet management practices.
Judges will assess nominations across four key levels of maturity:
- Experience and knowledge
- Processes and documentation
- Data quality and record keeping
- Monitoring and continuous improvement
Organisations will be evaluated on a wide range of fleet management disciplines including strategy and planning, policies and processes, data capture and reporting, procurement probity, maintenance management and regulatory compliance.
The judging panel will also look closely at how organisations are improving safety outcomes, reducing fleet emissions and using technology to achieve better operational results.
Focus on outcomes and evidence
A key requirement for the Fleet of the Year Award is evidence of structured fleet management practices supported by reliable data and reporting.
Successful organisations will demonstrate that fleet management is integrated into their governance framework and supports organisational objectives such as service delivery, financial sustainability and risk management.
Evidence may include fleet strategies, documented policies, fleet management system reports, maintenance compliance records and examples of performance monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives.
The award also recognises organisations that engage stakeholders and senior leadership through regular reporting and clearly defined performance indicators.
A new benchmark for fleet excellence
The Fleet News Group Awards aim to establish a new benchmark for recognising excellence across the fleet and transport industry.
Alongside the Fleet of the Year Award, the program will include several categories that recognise organisations and suppliers delivering strong outcomes in areas such as safety, sustainability and technology.
Nominations for the Fleet Management Excellence Awards will open in April 2026, giving organisations across government, corporate and not-for-profit sectors the opportunity to showcase their fleet management achievements.
Winners will be announced at the Fleet News Group Awards ceremony in Sydney on 14 October 2026.
For organisations that take fleet management seriously, the Fleet of the Year Award provides an opportunity to demonstrate leadership and set the benchmark for the rest of the industry.
