Ford Australia has released pricing and specifications for the new E-Transit Custom and Transit Custom PHEV, ahead of customer deliveries in Q3 this year.
The PHEV and E-Transit variants join the turbo-diesel range of Transit Custom models, offering business and fleet operators electrified options that don’t compromise on the equipment, safety, design and packaging qualities the range is known for.
Four variants will be available, with the choice of plug-in hybrid or battery electric powertrains and either Long Wheelbase Trend or Short Wheelbase Sport layouts.
The Transit Custom PHEV is powered by a 111kW/320Nm electric motor and 86kW/209Nm 2.5L petrol engine, with a combined power output of 171kW and an official WLTP fuel use rating of just 1.7L/100km. An 11.8kWh battery feeds the electric motor, for an electric-only range of up to 54km.
On the zero-emissions front, the E-Transit Custom uses a rear-mounted electric motor producing 160kW/415Nm, fed by a 64kWh battery for a range of up to 307km.
DC fast charging allows the E-Transit to be charged from 15-80 percent in 32 minutes at a rate of 125kW, and it can be fully charged from empty in around 6.7 hours using an 11kW AC charger.
Designed to maximise storage space with efficient underfloor packaging to house the batteries, all Transit Custom PHEV and E-Transit Custom variants carry the same load space of their combustion counterparts, measuring in at 6.0m3 and 5.2m3 respectively.
Maximum payload capacity, based on kerb weight, ranges between 1111kg to 1206kg depending on the variant, and the braked towing capacity is 2.3 tonnes, which sets a precedent in the electrified van space.
In line with the rest of the Transit Custom range, the new electrified additions are covered by a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, with scheduled services every 12 months or 30,000-kilometres – whichever comes first.
“While the comprehensive equipment list and low- or zero-emission powertrains will appeal, it’s the ability to go the distance with lower operating costs, without sacrificing cargo space, that Transit Custom owners have been asking for,” said John Hatzimanolis, Director of Customer Experience and Sales, Ford Australia.
“Around Australia, many fleet operators and business owners depend on the Transit Custom for its versatility, capability and long list of convenience and safety features. The arrival of the new E-Transit Custom and Transit Custom PHEV ensures that customers have more efficient options to suit their needs, without compromising on safety, equipment, cargo space, or aftersales support.”
