Geely Auto Australia has begun rolling out an over-the-air (OTA) software update for its all-electric EX5 SUV, introducing new connectivity features and expanded driver customisation designed to improve everyday usability.
The update is being progressively deployed to customer vehicles between 4 and 9 February and can be completed remotely, without the need to visit a dealership or service centre .
Focus on usability and driver preferences
A key addition in the latest update is the introduction of Android Auto, with both wired and wireless support. This enables broader smartphone integration for navigation, communication and media, aligning the EX5 with expectations from fleet and private users who rely on seamless in-vehicle connectivity.
The update also introduces a new “Drive Setup” one-touch activation function. This allows drivers to pre-set their preferred driving configuration and quickly activate it at the start of each trip using either a steering-wheel shortcut or the swipe-down menu on the central display.
Settings that can now be customised and recalled include drive mode selection, energy regeneration levels, lane-keeping functions, driver fatigue detection and speed limit alerts. The aim is to reduce the need for repeated manual adjustments, particularly for vehicles shared between multiple drivers.
Safety and functional refinements
In addition to connectivity and drive-profile changes, the OTA update adds customisable low-speed Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) sounds. Drivers can select from three audio profiles, providing greater flexibility while maintaining pedestrian safety requirements.
Further refinements include tailgate control being added to the swipe-down shortcut menu, along with an audible confirmation when switching between drive modes.
Remote updates reduce downtime
Geely Auto Australia recommends that customers complete the download using a stable home or smartphone Wi-Fi connection. Full installation instructions are available via the Geely Connected Services section of the brand’s Australian website.
OTA capability is increasingly relevant for fleet operators, as it allows software improvements and feature updates to be deployed across vehicles without disrupting operations or scheduling workshop visits. According to Geely, the EX5 updates are informed by real-world user feedback from global markets.
The company has also confirmed that the first OTA update for the Starray EM-i is expected later in the first quarter of 2026, signalling a broader rollout of remote software management across its local model range .
