Leapmotor will expand its Australian electric vehicle range with the arrival of the B03X, an affordable compact SUV offering two battery options, extensive driver assistance technology and flexible cabin storage.
For fleet managers assessing electric vehicles for urban operations, the B03X brings another option to the passenger vehicle shortlist. Its compact dimensions, standard connectivity and choice of driving ranges provide scope to match the vehicle to different daily travel requirements.
The Australian line-up comprises the Style and Design LR variants, both featuring rear-wheel drive and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.
Two battery options for different duties
The B03X Style combines a 39.8kWh battery with a 130kW electric motor and a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 292km.
The Design LR increases battery capacity to 53kWh and motor output to 145kW, extending claimed WLTP range to up to 382km.
For fleets, the choice creates an opportunity to assess battery capacity against actual utilisation. A vehicle completing predictable local trips and returning to a charging base may have different requirements from one regularly travelling between regional sites.
The quoted ranges are laboratory comparison figures. Fleet assessments will need to account for operating conditions, including route, weather, vehicle load and energy used by cabin heating or cooling.
Charging flexibility and external power
Both variants feature an 11kW onboard AC charger, supporting charging at suitably equipped workplaces or homes.
DC charging capability reaches up to 100kW in the Style and 133kW in the Design LR. Leapmotor quotes approximately 16 minutes to charge from 30 to 80 per cent under optimal conditions, although actual charging times will depend on the charger, battery and environmental conditions.
Vehicle-to-load functionality is also available, supplying up to 3.3kW to external devices. This could be useful for staff needing power for compatible equipment away from a fixed electricity supply.
Compact footprint, flexible cabin
Measuring 4,270mm long and 1,810mm wide, with a 2,605mm wheelbase, the B03X combines a compact exterior with configurable passenger and luggage space.
Leapmotor’s rear Leap Flex Seats, 60:40 split-fold rear seats and Leap Box storage compartment support changing passenger and cargo requirements. Maximum cargo capacity is quoted at 1,315 litres.
The cabin also includes 33 storage spaces, while roof rails are standard.
For pool vehicles and staff carrying equipment between locations, the practical assessment will be how easily the cabin accommodates the organisation’s usual passengers, bags and work materials.
Driver assistance across the range
Both variants include seven airbags and Leapmotor’s LEAP Pilot Level 2 driver assistance package.
Standard features include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane centring control, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, driver attention monitoring and front and rear cross traffic alert with braking assistance.
The Style includes rear parking sensors and a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines. The Design LR adds front parking sensors, side collision sensors and a 360-degree camera system with an integrated dashcam recorder.
These features give fleet buyers a substantial equipment list to evaluate during a demonstration drive, particularly for vehicles shared by drivers with different experience levels. Level 2 assistance still requires the driver to remain attentive and responsible for vehicle control.
Connectivity supports daily use
A 14.6-inch central touchscreen and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster are standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation and wireless phone charging.
The vehicle also supports over-the-air software updates and Leapmotor Connected Services.
Through the Leapmotor App, users can monitor vehicle status, manage charging schedules, locate the vehicle and access remote functions. Fleets considering shared use will need to assess how these functions fit their driver allocation and account management processes.
The Design LR adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat and a 12-speaker audio system.
With Australian dealership arrivals scheduled for November, the B03X gives fleet managers another compact electric SUV to assess against their operating needs. The key considerations will be daily kilometres, charging access, cabin practicality and driver acceptance.
