Zeekr has officially unveiled its all-electric mid-size SUV, the Zeekr 7X, to the Australian market, promising cutting-edge tech, rapid charging, and the sort of “Hidden Energy” design language that sounds like it came straight from an art gallery brochure.
The launch took place at the Australian Museum in Sydney – a fitting backdrop for a brand keen to talk about sustainability, innovation, and the future of mobility.
A Brand With Meaning – Literally
Explaining the brand’s unusual name, Frank Li, Vice President of Zeekr International and Managing Director of Zeekr Australia, told the crowd:
“ZE stands for Zero – the starting point of infinite possibilities. E is for Evolution and Electricity, and KR is for Krypton, a rare gas that glows when electrified. It represents our attitude towards innovation.”
Frank added that Australia has quickly embraced Zeekr since its local launch in August 2024:
“We have found this is the right place and the right time for us to grow. Our Australian customers are passionate about technology, sustainability and innovation. Nearly 1,000 customers have joined us so far, and we aim to deliver over 2,000 units this year, with a mid-term target to be one of the top two premium EV brands in this country.”
Designed in Sweden, Built for Real Life
The Zeekr 7X was designed in Gothenburg, Sweden, under the guidance of Vice President of Global Design Stefan Sielaff. At the launch, Matt McCroarey, Head of Ownership Experience at Zeekr Australia, described it as:
“A luxury SUV silhouette that combines sleek expression with a muscular appearance. Our ‘Hidden Energy’ design language brings clean lines, sculpted surfaces and aerodynamic efficiency, but also practicality and comfort for everyday use.”
For those less fluent in design-speak, that translates to a sharp-looking SUV with frameless mirrors, flush door handles, and LED lighting features that could rival a small concert stage.
Three Models, One Goal – Range and Speed
The Zeekr 7X is offered in three variants:
- RWD (75kWh Golden Battery) – 480km WLTP range, 0–100km/h in 6.0s – From $57,900
- Long Range RWD (100kWh) – 615km WLTP range, 0–100km/h in 6.0s – From $63,900
- Performance AWD (100kWh) – 543km WLTP range, 0–100km/h in 3.8s – From $72,900
All models ride on an 800V electrical architecture capable of up to 450kW DC charging. The RWD can charge from 10–80% in just 13 minutes on a 360kW charger.
Matt explained why that matters for Australian buyers:
“Couple our 800V architecture with intelligent thermal management, and you get ultra-fast charging and efficiency that keeps drivers on the road, not waiting at the charger.”
Luxury Meets Practicality
Inside, the 7X offers space for five, a 539-litre boot (plus a 62-litre frunk), and features like heated and cooled massage seats in the Performance AWD, a panoramic roof, and a 21-speaker Zeekr Sound Pro audio system.
Matt pointed out that:
“The 7X is spacious, functional and comfortable. We’ve designed it to be a mobile small warehouse if needed – with up to 36 storage compartments and rear seats that recline up to 124 degrees.”
Safety and Tech
Powered by Qualcomm’s 8295 Snapdragon chip, the infotainment system delivers rapid responses, supports over-the-air updates, and connects with a 36.2-inch augmented reality head-up display. A Euro NCAP five-star safety rating comes standard, along with a robust body structure, seven airbags, and a suite of driver assistance features.
Launch Sweeteners
The first 1,000 Australian customers receive:
- An extra two years’ warranty and roadside assist (7 years total)
- 7kW home charger with cables
- Complimentary interior and exterior colour upgrades
- $3,000 loyalty bonus for current Zeekr owners
Frank Li summed up the launch with confidence:
“The 7X brings together technology, performance and design in a way that’s made for Australia. We believe more and more customers will join us on this journey.”
