BYD has announced that the latest addition to its growing EV portfolio — the Atto 2 — will be arriving in Australia in Q4 2025. As a compact, fully electric SUV, the Atto 2 is positioned to shake up the small SUV segment with a combination of sleek design, advanced technology, and a focus on value that will resonate with both private and fleet buyers.
“The Atto family of vehicles is expanding in Australia, and we’re confident this latest addition will be well received by local buyers,” said Wing You, General Manager at BYD Australia. “With its exciting looks, superlative technology, and eminent versatility, the Atto 2 promises to be a game-changer in the small-size SUV segment.”
Compact SUV, Big Technology
The Atto 2 will be built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the same next-gen EV platform underpinning its larger siblings. It features Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology — a structural battery integration that increases torsional rigidity by 32 per cent, delivering class-leading levels of safety and on-road performance.
The small SUV will be offered with two specification levels — Essential and Premium — both powered by BYD’s renowned 51.13kWh Blade Battery and 130kW/290Nm permanent magnet synchronous motor. Power is sent to the front wheels via BYD’s 8-in-1 integrated electric powertrain, which combines key components like the motor, charger, BMS, and control systems into a compact and efficient architecture.
For fleet operators and Sustainability Managers exploring low-emissions vehicle options, the Atto 2’s efficient drivetrain and low NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) credentials will offer strong operational benefits — particularly in urban use cases.
Practical and Comfortable for Daily Use
Underneath, the Atto 2 utilises a MacPherson strut front suspension and torsion beam rear axle, which have been tuned for comfort and composure in everyday driving. BYD says this setup will provide a balanced ride quality, suitable for both city streets and longer highway trips — a key consideration for organisations operating mixed-use or commuter fleets.
Inside the cabin, occupants are treated to a refined and technology-rich environment. Standard features include:
- 8.8” digital instrument cluster
- Multifunction steering wheel
- Synthetic leather seats
- Intelligent Rotating Touchscreen (10.1” on Essential; 12.8” on Premium)
- Auto-dimming rearview mirror
Drivers will also benefit from smartphone-level convenience features such as NFC digital key access, adaptive cruise control, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) — allowing the vehicle to power tools, camping equipment, or even another EV in an emergency.
Designed to Stand Out
The Atto 2’s exterior styling has been led by BYD’s global design team, under the guidance of acclaimed designer Wolfgang Egger. It blends a sporty silhouette with bold features, including:
- Sleek floating roofline with panoramic sunroof
- Integrated flush door handles
- Distinctive full-width LED light bar at the rear
- Muscular stance with short overhangs and dynamic curves
From the front, powerful LED headlights and sculpted detailing add to its youthful appeal — a look BYD hopes will attract new drivers to EV ownership.
Safety First, Always
As expected from BYD, safety has been made a top priority. The Atto 2 will offer a comprehensive safety suite that includes:
- Six airbags
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
- Reverse camera (Essential) or 360-degree camera (Premium)
For Fleet Managers seeking to reduce incident rates or meet organisational safety KPIs, this full suite of active and passive features aligns with the requirements of modern vehicle policies.
Final Specs and Pricing Coming Soon
While BYD has not yet released final pricing, it is expected that the Atto 2 will maintain the brand’s reputation for over-delivering on value. With its compact footprint, modern design, and impressive list of standard features, the Atto 2 is set to be a highly attractive option in a growing field of small electric SUVs.
Fleet Managers, Procurement Officers and novated lease buyers can expect a competitively priced vehicle with strong whole-of-life cost potential, backed by BYD’s expanding presence in Australia.
What’s Next?
Final specifications, including WLTP driving range and detailed feature breakdowns for each trim, will be confirmed closer to launch. With an arrival set for the final quarter of 2025, the Atto 2 is poised to continue BYD’s rapid rise in the Australian EV market and solidify its appeal to both private and business customers seeking a premium EV experience without the premium price.
