The Geely EX5 has made an impressive debut in the Australian electric vehicle market, finishing as the third-highest selling battery electric vehicle (BEV) in May 2025 and reaching a major milestone of more than 1,000 units delivered since launch.
With 511 units registered in May alone, the all-electric midsize SUV outperformed many established and emerging competitors in the BEV segment. Since its mid-March launch, a total of 1,023 Geely EX5s have been registered across the country, positioning the Chinese manufacturer as a serious contender in Australia’s fast-growing EV market.
Growing Brand Recognition and Dealer Network
Mr Lei Li, CEO of Geely Auto Australia, credited the brand’s early success to a combination of market resonance and strong dealer support.
“It’s wonderful to see the Geely EX5 is resonating with SUV buyers. A core focus for Geely has been expanding our reach to key customers with our network growth, which has in turn strengthened our ability to deliver such significant results in our early days,” said Mr Li.
“We look forward to the rest of the year and beyond, and thank our customers and dealer partners for their support.”
Currently, Geely has eight dealerships established in Victoria, with further expansion planned as demand grows. One of those dealers—Geely Epping—recently marked a historic moment for the brand with the handover of the 1,000th EX5 to a new owner.
A Milestone Moment in Aquatic Green
That vehicle—a Geely EX5 Inspire in Aquatic Green—was delivered to Sheryl, who praised the EX5’s technology, comfort, and showroom experience.
“I’m so thrilled to be the 1000th Geely customer in Australia. The Geely EX5 had everything I was looking for in a car, from the great colour and interior to the technology,” said Sheryl.
“I just love the interior – the heating and cooling seats, the luxury items, and the passenger seat with the leg rest. I think I’m going to need to take it on a long road trip to test all the features out.”
She also shared praise for her experience at Geely Epping.
“I had an awesome experience with Geely Epping – Naz and the team were very welcoming, friendly, and authentic from the start, explaining everything in a way I could understand. I’m very impressed.”
Dealer Principal Matthew McMaster reflected on the journey so far:
“We’re very proud to be part of a momentous milestone in Geely’s history here in Australia. We’ve been part of the Geely sales journey since the beginning and have witnessed the rapid growth that’s led to this point.”
An Important Player for Fleet and Novated Leasing
For Fleet Managers and Sustainability Managers looking to add battery electric SUVs to their procurement plans, the Geely EX5 represents an attractive option with growing support infrastructure and early buyer satisfaction. The combination of high spec levels and an expanding dealer network makes the EX5 a model to watch in the second half of 2025.
With more Australians considering the shift to electric, the Geely EX5’s strong start indicates that there’s plenty of room for well-priced, tech-rich alternatives in the midsize SUV market—especially when backed by a customer-focused dealer experience.
