GWM has confirmed final specifications for the all-new Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV, locking in the detail behind what is shaping up as one of the more serious plug-in hybrid off-roaders to enter the Australian market in 2026 .
Offered in two grades – Lux and Ultra – the ladder-frame SUV pairs traditional 4×4 hardware with a high-output plug-in hybrid powertrain and a sizeable battery, aiming to deliver genuine off-road capability with low official fuel consumption .
Powertrain and Performance
At the core is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine combined with an electric motor, delivering a combined 300kW and 750Nm through a 9-speed hybrid automatic transmission .
Official combined fuel consumption is listed at 1.9L/100km, with low-charge consumption rated at 8.3L/100km . The 37.11kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt battery provides an NEDC EV-only range of 115km and a combined range of 955km .
DC charging at up to 50kW allows a 30–80 per cent top-up in 24 minutes, while AC charging from 15–100 per cent takes approximately 6.5 hours . Vehicle-to-load capability of up to 6kW is also included .
For fleet operators assessing capability, the Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV offers:
- 3,000kg braked towing capacity
- 610kg payload
- GVM of 3,225kg
- 70L fuel tank
The Lux grade includes a rear differential lock, low-range transfer case, multiple terrain modes, crawl control and tank turn assist . The Ultra adds a front differential lock and enhanced underbody protection .
Specification and Safety
Both variants feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, leather-accented seats and a comprehensive ADAS suite .
Safety systems include AEB (with junction assist), blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert with braking, traffic sign recognition, lane keeping functions and a driver fatigue monitoring system . Seven airbags are fitted as standard .
The Ultra variant adds higher-grade Nappa leather, heated and ventilated front seats, driver massage and memory functions, 64-colour ambient lighting and additional convenience features .
Market Positioning
GWM has previously confirmed limited-time national drive-away pricing of $55,990 for the Lux and $59,990 for the Ultra .
With final specifications now confirmed and vehicles arriving in dealerships from early April 2026, the Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV will enter a growing segment of electrified 4x4s that seek to balance off-road credentials with reduced emissions and improved efficiency .
For fleets considering plug-in hybrid SUVs for regional, infrastructure or supervisory roles, the combination of ladder-frame durability, 3,000kg towing, EV driving range and V2L functionality may prompt closer examination when vehicles land in showrooms next month .
