Hyundai has expanded its local electric vehicle portfolio with the introduction of the new ELEXIO, a five-seat, medium SUV positioned between the Kona Electric and IONIQ 5.
Launching initially in Elite specification, ELEXIO is priced at $59,990 drive-away and is powered by a 160kW, 310Nm front-mounted electric motor paired with an 88.1kWh LFP battery. The WLTP driving range is rated at 546km for the Elite variant, with an entry-grade model to follow in the second quarter of 2026 .
For Fleet Managers and Sustainability Managers assessing medium SUV electrification options, ELEXIO presents a practical balance between size, range and equipment. At 4,615mm long with a 2,750mm wheelbase, it offers more interior and cargo space than Kona Electric, while remaining slightly more compact than Tucson .
Charging and efficiency
Built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, ELEXIO supports both 400V and 800V charging infrastructure. Hyundai claims a 10 to 80 per cent DC fast charge in as little as 38 minutes, with compatibility for up to 150kW fast charging .
Combined cycle energy consumption is rated at 18.2kWh/100km, delivering up to 562km WLTP range in the entry model and 546km in Elite . A heat pump system is fitted to help maintain efficiency in cooler conditions by reusing waste heat energy.
For organisations developing an EV transition roadmap, this level of range provides operational flexibility for metro and regional travel without requiring mid-day charging in many use cases.
Interior, connectivity and V2L capability
ELEXIO introduces Hyundai’s new Connect-C infotainment system, built on Android Automotive OS and displayed across a 27-inch panoramic screen. The vehicle also features a head-up display, Bluelink connected services and over-the-air update capability .
A 250V Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) outlet in the cargo area allows external devices to be powered directly from the high-voltage battery . For field-based teams, this could support charging of tools or mobile equipment without the need for separate generators.
Cargo capacity is quoted at 506 litres, expanding to 1,540 litres with the rear seats folded , making it suitable for pool fleet or salary-packaged applications.
Local chassis tuning
Hyundai engineers undertook a local suspension and steering tune specifically for Australian conditions, evaluating springs, dampers and anti-roll bars in conjunction with the local team .
This local calibration is relevant for fleets operating across mixed urban and regional networks, where ride comfort, stability and refinement influence driver acceptance and fatigue management.
Safety and aftersales support
ELEXIO is equipped with nine airbags and Hyundai SmartSense driver assistance systems including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2, Highway Driving Assist 2 and Lane Following Assist 2 .
From an ownership perspective, Hyundai provides a seven-year/unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty (subject to servicing conditions) and an eight-year/160,000km high-voltage battery warranty . Lifetime service plan pricing for 30,000km is listed at $779 including GST .
For Finance Managers modelling whole-of-life costs, the combination of extended warranty, fixed service pricing and LFP battery chemistry may support more predictable cost projections compared with some earlier-generation EVs.
A strategic addition to Hyundai’s EV range
Hyundai describes ELEXIO as a family-focused, technology-first SUV designed to meet the needs of Australian customers . For fleets, it adds a medium SUV option with over 500km WLTP range, fast-charging capability and high specification at launch.
As organisations continue to lift their fleet management maturity, vehicles such as ELEXIO provide a practical platform to test EV integration into medium SUV categories commonly used for management, pool and novated lease applications.
