Kia EV4 has arrived in Australia, strengthening Kia’s electric vehicle portfolio with a sleek sedan designed around efficiency, long-distance capability and everyday usability.
Joining the EV3, EV5, EV6 and EV9, the EV4 takes a slightly different approach to electrification. Rather than following the SUV trend, Kia has focused on aerodynamics, driving range and interior packaging to deliver a practical electric sedan suited to commuting, business use and longer highway trips.
Built on Kia’s dedicated E-GMP electric platform, the EV4 has been engineered from the ground up as an EV rather than adapted from a combustion model. That platform underpins the vehicle’s long wheelbase, flat floor and efficient drivetrain, while also enabling a clean, contemporary design inside and out.
A key highlight is driving range. With a choice of Standard Range and Long Range battery configurations, the EV4 offers strong real-world flexibility depending on usage needs. The Long Range variants deliver up to 612km on the WLTP cycle — the longest driving range Kia has offered to date — while the Standard Range version still provides a practical 456km. For fleet operators and drivers covering mixed urban and regional distances, those figures reduce charging frequency and planning complexity.
Aerodynamics play a major role in achieving that efficiency. The EV4 records a drag coefficient of just 0.23Cd, the lowest of any Kia model so far. Features such as active air flaps, a long-tail profile and flush door handles help minimise drag, particularly at highway speeds, where EV efficiency matters most.
The EV4 also introduces Kia’s latest i-Pedal 3.0 system, allowing adjustable one-pedal driving that remains active after the vehicle is restarted. The system works in reverse as well, delivering a consistent driving experience in tight urban environments. Smart Regenerative Braking further optimises efficiency by automatically adjusting braking intensity based on traffic conditions and driver behaviour.
Inside, the EV4 continues Kia’s “home-like” interior theme, blending minimalism with practicality. All variants feature the Integrated Panoramic Display, combining digital instruments, climate controls and infotainment screens into a single horizontal layout. Physical buttons are retained for frequently used functions, a detail that will be welcomed by drivers spending long hours behind the wheel.
Connectivity is a major focus. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Kia Connect app functionality for remote vehicle monitoring, climate pre-conditioning and charging management. Over-the-air updates allow software and features to be refreshed without visiting a dealership, helping keep vehicles current throughout their service life.
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability is also standard across the range, enabling the EV4 to power tools, equipment or accessories directly from the vehicle. This feature adds practical value for mobile workers, trades and business users who increasingly rely on portable power solutions.
From a safety perspective, the EV4 includes a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems as standard, including Highway Driving Assist 2, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 2 and Driver Attention Warning with hands-on detection. Kia is currently working through ANCAP assessment, with an official rating expected in due course.
Local ride and handling development has also been a focus, with Kia Australia engineers tuning suspension, damping and steering specifically for Australian road conditions. The result is a balance between urban comfort and confident handling, particularly important for a sedan expected to cover a wide variety of driving environments.
With its EV-first platform, standout efficiency and long-distance capability, the Kia EV4 adds depth to Kia’s electric range and gives Australian drivers — including fleets and novated lease buyers — another compelling pathway into electric mobility without stepping into a larger SUV.
