Polestar has launched a new initiative that’s set to increase confidence in the used electric vehicle (EV) market — especially for Fleet Managers and novated lease owners planning for future resale. The Polestar Pre-owned programme now includes a battery state-of-health (BSOH) certificate for pre-owned Polestar 2 vehicles.
This move directly addresses one of the major concerns in the resale of EVs: battery degradation. The BSOH certificate transparently shows the useable battery capacity as a percentage, helping second-hand buyers — including fleets and novated lease customers — make informed decisions about vehicle condition and expected performance.
“Thanks to our new battery state-of-heath certificate, we’ve just added another reason for used EV buyers to purchase a pre-owned Polestar 2,” said Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO. “Along with the 112-point check, 24-month warranty and roadside assistance, plus our commitment to continually enhance our vehicles via over-the-air software updates, buyers can be confident they’re getting the very best example of a used Polestar 2 possible.”
The addition of a formal battery certificate will be welcomed by fleet operators looking to reduce residual value risk as more EVs enter the secondary market. The programme offers a 24-month warranty and includes the balance of Polestar’s 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty, providing a comprehensive assurance package.
Fleet Managers will also benefit from Polestar’s ongoing over-the-air software updates — more than 20 updates have already been delivered to Polestar 2 since launch. These updates improve vehicle efficiency, extend range and add new features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and popular apps including Waze and YouTube.
The inspection process includes a 112-point check, verified mileage and service history, ensuring each certified used vehicle meets quality standards. This reduces risks for organisations planning to rotate EVs after 3–4 years, which is common in novated leasing and operational fleet cycles.
While this announcement applies to Polestar 2, the company confirmed that BSOH certificates for Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 will follow, signalling a broader commitment to transparency in the used EV space.
For Fleet Managers and novated lease owners, this is a significant step in supporting a healthy second-hand EV market. It provides clearer insights into vehicle condition and enhances resale confidence — two critical factors as electric vehicles become a larger part of Australian fleets.
