After a successful first round that will deliver around 900 electric vehicles into fleets in NSW, round 2 of the NSW EV fleet incentive has opened and organisations have until 17th August to submit their bids for funding.
Just like Round 1, the second round will be a reverse auction process which rewards organisations for achieving the highest offset of CO2 per dollar of incentive received.
In round 1 there were 17 individual fleets and 5 aggregators that were successful bidders, who will receive the money once the vehicles hit the road.
Fleet EV News caught up with David Malicki, Manager Net Zero Transport at the NSW Office of Energy and Climate Change, at the NRMA EV drive day during July to find out what fleets can expect in round 2.
“We’re expecting more engagement in round 2,” said Malicki. “We were very happy with the responses in round 1 which will deliver over 900 electric vehicles onto NSW roads. This round should see even more fleets bidding, and we expect the interest to grow in every round.”
One significant change in round 2 is the opportunity for car subscription companies to bid for individual stream funding. This should create more interest with many consumers keen to try electric vehicles, but don’t want to commit to long term ownership. Car subscription provides an opportunity to lifestyle test the EV with limited commitment.
Payments are intended to cover part of the total cost of ownership (TCO) gap between a BEV/FCEV and an equivalent internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV), hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). A contribution for BEV smart base chargers can also be accessed by successful fleet managers.

The NSW Government is investing $105 million in investment to the Drive electric NSW EV fleets incentive to help reduce the cost of transitioning to battery or fuel cell electric vehicles.
The goal is to enable fleets to transition to EVs, get more EVs on the road and increase the second-hand EV market for households and drive down emissions.
