Suzuki Australia has expanded its electrified line-up with the introduction of the Vitara Hybrid, bringing 48V hybrid technology to one of its most recognisable compact SUVs .
Building on the established Vitara nameplate, the new model combines Suzuki’s lightweight engineering approach with improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions, while retaining the versatility that has made it a popular urban and regional runabout .
48V Smart Hybrid system
At the core of the Vitara Hybrid is Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) system. It pairs a 1.4-litre BoosterJet turbo petrol engine with an integrated starter generator and lithium-ion battery to assist acceleration and recuperate energy under braking .
The system operates without the need for external charging, supporting the engine during take-off and acceleration to enhance efficiency across city, suburban and highway driving . Power is delivered through a six-stage automatic transmission, with front-wheel drive standard and ALLGRIP all-wheel drive available on selected variants .
ALLGRIP versatility
For drivers seeking additional traction, the Vitara Turbo Hybrid ALLGRIP variant adds Suzuki’s selectable all-wheel drive system . Driving modes include Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock, allowing the vehicle to adapt to varying road and weather conditions .
This configuration is aimed at customers who split their time between urban commuting and regional travel, providing additional confidence on loose or slippery surfaces .
Safety and technology
Safety features include Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert . The Turbo Hybrid variant includes a 7-inch infotainment system and six airbags, while the ALLGRIP model upgrades to a 9-inch infotainment screen, six speakers and additional premium features .
Both variants seat five occupants and offer 362 litres of luggage capacity with the rear seats raised, expanding to 642 litres when folded . Braked towing capacity is rated at 1,200kg .
Pricing and servicing
The Vitara Turbo Hybrid is priced from $39,990 drive away, while the Vitara Turbo Hybrid ALLGRIP starts from $45,990 drive away, excluding premium paint options .
Servicing is covered under Suzuki’s five-year Genuine Service Program, with capped pricing for scheduled maintenance across the first five years or 100,000km .
