Toyota has confirmed that the sixth-generation RAV4 will arrive in Australia in the first half of 2026, bringing with it a broader line-up, next-generation technology, and Toyota Australia’s first plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
More Grades, Including GR Sport
The new range expands to six grades, headlined by the performance-focused GR Sport, which will debut exclusively with the PHEV all-wheel drive powertrain. This flagship variant delivers a maximum 227kW from a 2.5-litre hybrid system, 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery, and dual electric motors – making it the most powerful RAV4 to date.
The GR Sport also receives unique tuning with high-performance dampers, stiffer suspension bracing, retuned steering, and a wider wheel track for added agility. Styling touches include GR-specific bumpers, wing-type spoiler, 20-inch machined alloy wheels, GR Sport seats, suede knee pads, aluminium pedals, and paddle shifters.
The XSE grade will also be available with the new PHEV in both 2WD (200kW) and AWD formats, alongside the existing hybrid. Other grades include GX, GXL, Edge, and Cruiser, giving buyers a wide spectrum of options from practical fleet choice to lifestyle flagship.
Hybrid Powertrain Updates
Hybrid 2WD and AWD versions remain core to the line-up. All hybrids now use Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system, producing a combined 143kW with smoother, more efficient operation. AWD models feature an additional rear-mounted electric motor, enhancing traction and capability.
The adventure-focused Edge grade continues in AWD hybrid form with skid plates, wider black arches, synthetic leather interior, heated front seats, powered tailgate, and a large 12.9-inch touchscreen.
Next-Generation Safety and Tech
Safety is a standout. The new RAV4 introduces Toyota’s latest Safety Sense suite, with improved pre-collision detection (covering bicycles and motorbikes), front cross-traffic alert, enhanced blind spot monitoring, and lane trace assist. A new 3D panoramic view monitor will also make tight manoeuvres easier.
Inside, every model gains Toyota’s new Arene multimedia system, designed for speed, over-the-air updates, and smarter voice control. Standard features start strong even on the base GX: 17-inch alloys, LED headlights, 10.5-inch multimedia with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, five USB-C ports, and dual-zone climate control.
Higher grades step up with leather-accented interiors, larger wheels, panoramic roofs, premium JBL® audio, wireless phone chargers, head-up display, and climate concierge features.
PHEV Convenience
Both PHEV grades offer a 1500W inverter, giving drivers the ability to power small appliances directly from the car – ideal for worksites, camping, or emergency use.
Colours and Personalisation
A refreshed colour palette includes Massive Grey, Urban Rock, Feverish Red, Dusty Bronze, and Daintree Green, alongside favourites like Glacier White, Eclipse Black, and Saturn Blue. Two-tone options with a black roof are also available on select grades.
