Fleet Managers that were early adopters didn’t have many options when looking to add electric vehicles to their fleets. Hyundai was the first manufacturer to sell any significant volumes to fleets while Tesla was the preferred EV for individuals.
In the recently State of Electric Vehicles released in October 2022, there were 17 manufacturers offering 45 models in 95 variants of BEV or PHEV passenger vehicles and there were 18 models of trucks, vans and utility vehicles.
The top selling electric models September YTD are:
- Tesla Model 3 (BEV)
- Tesla Model Y (BEV)
- MG HS (PHEV)
- Lexus NX450H (PHEV)
- Hyundai Kona (BEV)
Not all of the vehicles listed above will meet the ‘Fit for purpose’ test employed by Fleet Managers. And they may not come out ahead when compared to an ICE when using a Whole of Life Cost analysis. This isn’t stopping fleets from ordering them.
The NSW Government is the only state with an EV incentive targeted towards fleets, so it makes sense to think about where to electric vehicles as well when operating nationally.
Looking at the list of vehicles with electric powertrains that are currently on sale, here’s the ones that will be attractive to fleets based on purchase price.
