Hyundai Motor has pulled the covers off Concept THREE, its first compact EV concept under the IONIQ sub-brand, at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich. The debut marks a significant step in Hyundai’s electrification roadmap and underscores the growing importance of compact EVs in Europe and beyond.
A Shift to Compact EVs
Concept THREE represents Hyundai’s expansion into the compact vehicle category, complementing its midsize and large EV offerings. For fleet buyers, this signals an upcoming option that blends urban practicality with Hyundai’s advanced electrification capabilities.
Xavier Martinet, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe, described the launch as a milestone:
“Concept THREE represents the next step in Hyundai Motor’s electrification journey. With its compact dimensions and Art of Steel design language, it embodies our vision of delivering mobility that is practical, accessible and emotionally resonant”.
With demand for compact EVs surging in Europe—driven by urbanisation, sustainability regulations, and the push for space-efficient transport—Hyundai’s move is strategically timed.
Design and Features
The Art of Steel design language defines the Concept THREE. Its sculpted body combines flowing volumes with precise lines, creating both strength and elegance. Key highlights include:
- Aero Hatch profile – aerodynamic roofline with a vertical tailgate for urban versatility.
- Parametric Pixel lighting – expressive, gradient-style pixels front and rear.
- Material-driven finishes – anodised-effect exterior, lemon-tinted glass, and wheels.
- Interior focus – calm and intuitive spaces with modular “Bring Your Own Lifestyle” (BYOL) widgets and sustainable materials such as ocean waste textiles and aluminium foam.
Hyundai has also introduced “Mr. Pix,” a symbolic character embedded into the design, offering playful storytelling and hidden surprises to create a deeper emotional connection.

Why Europe Matters
Hyundai’s electrification roadmap is ambitious. By 2027, every model in Europe will have an electrified version, and by 2030, Hyundai plans to introduce 21 global EV models. Europe plays a central role, with nearly 80% of Hyundai vehicles sold there already being locally manufactured.
For fleet operators, the introduction of compact EVs like Concept THREE could prove critical. Compact EVs are:
- Easier to integrate into urban fleets where space is limited.
- More affordable entry points for electrification strategies.
- Well aligned with emissions regulations tightening across European cities.

Implications for Fleet Managers
For Fleet Managers planning long-term replacement cycles, Hyundai’s Concept THREE signals more choice in the compact EV segment. While specifications and release timing are yet to be confirmed, the focus on sustainability, modular interiors, and practicality make it a potential fit for both urban delivery and pool car fleets.
The compact EV category will only grow in importance as cities across Europe—and increasingly Australia—demand smaller, cleaner, and more efficient vehicles. Hyundai’s latest concept suggests that fleets won’t have to sacrifice design or user experience in the transition.
