Tesla has given its wildly popular Model Y a facelift for 2025, with revised aesthetics, more technology and improved driving range.
The new model will arrive in May, with a special Launch Series version of both the RWD and Long Range AWD models that scores larger 20-inch wheels, Launch Series badges and some other features. Until then, Tesla is offering runout discounts of the current model.
While the battery for each model variant remains the same, improvements to aerodynamics and brake drag mean the base RWD model can now travel 466km while the AWD can do 551km. Both models are slightly faster too, with the RWD getting to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds and the AWD in 4.3 seconds.
Visually, the front of the Model Y borrows themes from the Cybertruck and the rear of the vehicle, in our opinion, somewhat resembles that of the new Porsche Macan, or Hyundai Ioniq 6 – with a light bar that spans the width of the rear tailgate.
The new model also features a better sound system, a screen in the rear as standard, a revised indicator stalk, and acoustic glass to further reduce road noise for an improved cabin experience.
How much does it cost, though?
While the new model brings various improvements, the RWD model will set you back an extra $7500, now priced from $63,400. It’s a similar story for the long-range AWD trim that now comes in at $73,400, which is a $3500 increase in price over the current model.
Whether Tesla can maintain its dominant best-seller status with the Model Y, amidst the overwhelming array of new arrivals in the EV space, is anyone’s guess. However it appears Tesla, at least on paper, took the popular Model Y and made it even better for 2025.
