BYD is supercharging its Australian line-up, revealing four new models that promise to electrify showrooms over the next six months.
The compact ATTO 1 and ATTO 2 will arrive in November 2025, while the larger SEALION 5 and SEALION 8 SUVs are due in early 2026. Together, they signal BYD’s intent to cement itself as one of Australia’s dominant new energy brands.
From affordable city runabouts to seven-seat hybrids
The ATTO 1 is shaping up as a game changer. Already known as the DOLPHIN SURF in Europe and SEAGULL in China, it’s racked up over one million global sales — and will land here as Australia’s most affordable EV, according to BYD Australia COO Stephen Collins.
Designed for urban commuting, the ATTO 1 brings compact proportions, smart tech, and BYD’s latest battery innovation to a price point that could put an EV in more driveways than ever before.
Sitting just above it, the ATTO 2 targets buyers looking for a bit more space and flexibility. With everyday practicality and the advanced safety and battery tech that BYD is known for, the ATTO 2 looks set to attract private and novated lease buyers who want value without compromise.
“When it comes to the ATTO range, start believing the hype,” said Collins.
“The ATTO 1 will be Australia’s most affordable EV by some margin, opening the door for even more Australians to get behind the wheel of their own new energy vehicle.”
SEALION 5 and SEALION 8: family-friendly powerhouses
For families and fleets looking to go further between charges, BYD will introduce two plug-in hybrids: the SEALION 5and SEALION 8.
The SEALION 5 is a mid-sized SUV that uses BYD’s dual-mode intelligent (DM-i) hybrid system, offering the smooth, silent drive of an electric car with the extended range of a petrol hybrid. It’s aimed squarely at buyers seeking efficiency and comfort without giving up performance.
The SEALION 8, meanwhile, takes the same approach and scales it up — literally. This seven-seat PHEV will become BYD’s largest model in Australia, combining a bold, modern design with a high-tech interior and generous space for families or business travel.
A bold commitment to choice
BYD’s rapid-fire rollout of new products shows how serious the brand is about Australia. The local line-up now spans compact EVs to plug-in hybrid SUVs and even the SHARK 6 ute — all designed to give drivers and fleets more choice on their “new energy journey.”
“To release this volume of product at such a rapid pace is really unprecedented in my time in the automotive industry,” Collins said.
“What it proves is that BYD is committed to providing Australian consumers with choice in starting – or continuing – their new energy automotive journeys.”
Why it matters for fleets and novated buyers
For Fleet Managers, the mix of pure EVs and plug-in hybrids offers more flexibility to transition towards lower emissions without compromising operational range or payload. The ATTO 1 could open EV adoption in city-based fleets, while the SEALION 5 and 8 provide practical options for regional or dual-purpose vehicles.
For novated lease customers, BYD’s combination of sharp pricing and efficient powertrains means lower running costs and better salary packaging outcomes — especially as PHEV and BEV options grow.
BYD’s expanding range — now including the SHARK 6, SEALION 6, SEALION 7, DOLPHIN, SEAL and ATTO 3— shows the brand isn’t slowing down. And with the ATTO 1 potentially redefining EV affordability, BYD looks set to electrify both the showroom and the fleet car park in 2026.
