Suzuki Australia has delivered its first battery electric vehicle to an Australian customer, marking the start of local customer deliveries for the e VITARA and adding another option for fleets considering electric SUVs.
The first vehicle, an e VITARA Motion, was collected by existing Vitara owner Nel Mary Davis from Pennant Hills Suzuki in early September. Suzuki Australia General Manager, Automotive, Michael Pachota attended the handover.
“This is a significant milestone for Suzuki Australia. Delivering our first e VITARA officially marks the beginning of Suzuki’s electrification journey in Australia,” Pachota said.
The delivery brings Suzuki into Australia’s battery electric vehicle market, extending its familiar Vitara nameplate into a new powertrain category.
Familiarity helps support the switch
According to Pachota, the first customer’s experience with her existing Vitara helped inform her decision to move to an electric vehicle.
“Ease of operation and reliability were two of the key reasons behind her decision – qualities she already knows and trusts from her current Vitara, and two things that have always been an important part of the Suzuki brand.”
For fleet managers, that emphasis on familiarity highlights an important part of the transition to electric vehicles: driver acceptance. Introducing an electric model from a brand drivers already know may help build confidence, although charging education and a structured vehicle handover remain important.
Two variants enter the market
The e VITARA is available in Motion 2WD and Ultra AWD variants, with pricing starting from $49,990 drive away.
The choice of two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive gives buyers different configurations to assess against their operating requirements. Fleet selection will still need to consider daily travel, charging access, carrying requirements and whole-of-life costs.
Suzuki says stock is beginning to arrive across the country, with further customer deliveries underway.
“This is the first of many e VITARAs currently being delivered across the country as stock begins to arrive, and I’m really looking forward to seeing many more out on the road,” Pachota said.
For fleets, the first delivery marks a practical step beyond a model announcement. With vehicles reaching customers, fleet managers can begin assessing how Suzuki’s first electric SUV fits their operational needs and replacement plans.
