Foton Mobility Distribution (FMD) has announced a major strategic shift in its approach to the Australian market, taking full responsibility for the sales and after-sales operations of Foton EV trucks in Victoria and South Australia from 1 September 2025.
The move will see FMD step in directly, ending its distribution arrangement with Sustainable Vehicle Solutions (SVS). For fleet operators, this means future sales, service, and support will be managed entirely by FMD.
Strengthening customer connection
Neil Wang, CEO and Founder of Foton Mobility Distribution, said the change is about bringing FMD closer to its customers in key growth regions.
“We greatly value the work SVS has done in establishing the Foton brand over the past two years. As we look to the future, we’re excited to engage more directly with our customers in Victoria and South Australia—two of the fastest-growing markets for electric commercial vehicles.”
Victoria and South Australia have become strong early adopters of electric commercial vehicles, particularly in the light-duty truck segment. By moving sales and service operations in-house, FMD is positioning itself to respond more directly to customer needs as demand increases.
A smooth transition for fleets
The CMV Group, parent company of SVS, says it will work with FMD to ensure a seamless handover for existing customers.
CMV Group Joint Managing Director, Miles Crawford, said:
“We recognise the role SVS has played in introducing light duty electric trucks to the market and supporting customers in the transition to EV transport solutions across Victoria and South Australia. As the electric commercial vehicle market continues to evolve, we support FMD’s decision to engage directly with customers and are committed to ensuring a smooth and professional transition.”
This reassurance will be welcomed by fleet operators who rely on continuity in service and support to minimise downtime.
Commitment to zero-emission transport
The move reinforces FMD’s broader strategy to lead in zero-emission transport solutions nationwide. The company has been actively sourcing advanced electric vehicle technology from overseas to meet local operational needs.
Both FMD and CMV Group confirmed their commitment to working together in the transition period, with a shared goal of accelerating the shift to cleaner, more sustainable transport.
For fleets, this consolidation of responsibility under FMD may streamline decision-making and support, making it easier to evaluate and operate Foton’s growing range of electric trucks.
