Geotab’s 2024 Sustainability and Impact Report underscores the company’s pragmatic, data-centric approach to decarbonisation, safety and operational efficiency across global fleet and transport operations. Celebrating 25 years in business, Geotab continues to evolve its mission—integrating sustainability into every layer of its operations and product development while helping more than 55,000 customers navigate the path to net zero.
A Message from the Top: Pragmatic Progress
Founder and CEO Neil Cawse emphasises the role of practical solutions in achieving environmental goals. “Progress isn’t always linear… cost reduction and efficiency is likely to be the catalyst for change,” he notes. His message reflects a shift from idealism to grounded, data-backed decision-making in the face of growing global pressures around cost and carbon accountability.
Sustainability Approach: Driving Impact Where It Matters Most
Geotab has sharpened its focus on three key areas through its Impact Agenda:

Advanced Mobility Insights for Smarter Infrastructure
Altitude by Geotab, a platform for governments and infrastructure planners, offers real-time insights into vehicle movement, stop durations and domicile behaviours. Used by organisations like CIMA+ in Canada, it has helped inform energy planning for zero-emission freight routes—bridging the gap between ambition and implementation.
Operational Emissions: A Mixed but Transparent Picture
Geotab remains committed to reaching net zero across all three scopes by 2040, with a 2030 interim target of halving emissions.
In 2024:
- Scope 1 emissions increased by 0.7% (due to higher natural gas usage).
- Scope 2 emissions decreased by 66%, aided by renewable energy certificates and office closures.
- Scope 3 emissions rose by 39%, reflecting business growth and supply chain impact.
Total Scope 3 emissions were 71,817 metric tonnes CO₂e—predominantly from purchased goods and services (88.6%).
While acknowledging these increases, Geotab reaffirmed its commitment to supplier engagement, product lifecycle data, and improvements in emissions reporting through ESG software and employee education.
Waste and Energy: Incremental Gains
In 2024:
- Geotab diverted 86.5% of waste from landfill at its Canadian HQ—short of the 94.1% achieved in 2023 but still tracking toward its 90% diversion goal for 2030.
- Over 5,896 kg of electronics and 453 kg of snack wrappers were recycled.
- Packaging innovation included recyclable cardboard and digital product manuals to reduce paper use.
On the energy front, Geotab conducted detailed audits and purchased RECs covering 16.4% of electricity consumption at HQ. The goal is to power all facilities with 100% renewable energy by 2030.
Sustainable Supply Chain: Collaboration in Progress
Understanding that Scope 3 emissions are the most difficult to control, Geotab is investing in sustainable procurement, including:
- 60% of top 10 suppliers now reporting to CDP.
- 100% of procurement staff trained in sustainable sourcing and labour rights.
- Enhanced supplier codes covering human rights, conflict materials, and modern slavery.
Geotab also promotes local and small business procurement, including partnerships with Indigenous and women-owned companies.
Empowering People and Communities
The company’s people-first philosophy is evident in initiatives that span health, diversity, and career development:
- Over 39,000 hours of training and 400 internal promotions in 2024.
- 364 employees have accessed Geotab’s EV incentive programme since 2019.
- 100% of staff completed ethics and compliance training.
- 42 million steps logged in the annual wellness challenge.
Geotab also delivered more than $150,000 in donations, supported 21 charities, and awarded 6 student scholarships, including for Black and Indigenous STEM students.
Commitment to Data Security and Responsible AI
With customers including the US Federal Government, Geotab maintains stringent data security standards, including FIPS and FedRAMP compliance. The company earned the PICCASO Data Partnership Award for its leadership in privacy and policy.
Its approach to AI is human-centric, favouring “augmented intelligence” over automation. The flagship tool, Geotab Ace, operates with user oversight and promotes transparency. Geotab is a signatory to Canada’s Voluntary Code for responsible generative AI development.
A Platform Built on Trust
Geotab’s 2024 report is more than a checklist of green credentials. It shows a company maturing into a global sustainability enabler—backing big environmental promises with the tools to track, measure and manage change at scale.
As Geotab continues to integrate sustainability into fleet, infrastructure and policy domains, its message is clear: the path to net zero is paved with data, collaboration and pragmatic solutions.

Planning EV charging should start with understanding how the fleet operates, not with choosing charger hardware. The first step is to identify how many kilometres each vehicle travels per day. This should include normal daily use, high-use days, seasonal peaks and any vehicles with irregular operating patterns. Once daily kilometres are understood, convert this into daily energy
