Mitsubishi Motors Australia has confirmed that the updated Outlander Plug-In Hybrid EV (PHEV) will return to showrooms in early 2026, bringing a raft of technical and comfort upgrades — including a larger 22.7 kWh battery, up to 86 km of pure-electric range (WLTP), and a sharper Australian-tuned chassis.
For Fleet Managers and novated lease buyers, the update enhances what was already one of the most versatile medium SUVs on the market — offering genuine EV-only driving for short commutes, with hybrid backup for longer trips.
More power, greater range, same practicality
The new lithium-ion battery is paired with two high-output electric motors and an efficient 2.4-litre petrol engine that can drive the front wheels directly or act as a generator. The result is more performance and improved efficiency, allowing most daily driving to be completed on electricity alone while retaining long-distance flexibility.
Suspension and steering have been retuned for Australian conditions — a hallmark of Mitsubishi’s local engineering input that now informs the global model. New Bridgestone summer tyres, a steel bonnet and front fenders, and enhanced Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) insulation contribute to a quieter, more composed drive.
Model line-up and key features
The model range mirrors the petrol Outlander and starts with the ES, which now includes:
- 12.3-inch infotainment and navigation display
- 8-speaker Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium audio
- Connected Car Service (CCS)
- Improved driver-assist suite including enhanced blind-spot and lane-departure systems
- Multi-around view monitor
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Stepping up to the Aspire adds 5+2 seating, heated seats and steering wheel, Mi-Pilot with Traffic Jam Assist, and new 20-inch alloys.
The Exceed swaps back to a five-seat layout and gains ventilated front seats, leather trim, and digital rear-view mirror, while the flagship Exceed Tourer adds semi-aniline Brick Brown leather, massage seats, and a 12-speaker Dynamic Sound Yamaha Ultimate Audio System.
Built for Australian drivers
Mitsubishi’s General Manager of Product Strategy, Bruce Hampel, said the updated Outlander PHEV “exemplifies Mitsubishi’s renowned ingenuity with its latest-generation PHEV powertrain featuring the best of both worlds. It’s also more powerful than ever before, while simultaneously improving efficiency and pure EV capability.”
He added that the refined interior, improved NVH and local suspension tuning “continue to shape Outlander’s reputation as a value-driven, capable and popular medium SUV.”
Peace of mind with Mitsubishi’s 10/10 Diamond Advantage
All models are backed by Mitsubishi’s 10-year/200,000 km warranty and 10 years of capped-price servicing, with an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty under the Drive Battery Capacity Care Program — guaranteeing at least 66 per cent battery capacity retention over that period.
For Fleet Managers, this level of coverage reduces whole-of-life risk and simplifies budgeting over longer replacement cycles.
Coming soon
Pricing and final specifications will be announced closer to launch, but the combination of longer EV range, improved refinement, and Australian engineering input positions the 2026 Outlander PHEV as a compelling low-emission option for families and fleets alike.
Expected in Mitsubishi showrooms from Q1 2026, the Outlander PHEV will continue to bridge the gap between petrol convenience and electric mobility — proof that hybrid evolution is far from over.
