Subaru has added another battery-electric SUV to its Australian line-up, with the new Uncharted now on sale from $59,990 before on-road costs.
The compact electric SUV joins the Solterra and Trailseeker in Subaru Australia’s growing Sport Electric Vehicle range, with first customer deliveries underway and test drives now available through Subaru retailers.
Positioned as the smallest and sportiest of Subaru’s three electric SUVs, the Uncharted combines a 74.7kWh battery with dual electric motors and standard all-wheel drive.
The front motor produces 167kW and 268Nm, while the rear motor adds 88kW and 169Nm. Combined output is 252kW, giving the Uncharted a claimed 0-100km/h time of approximately five seconds.
More than 500km of electric range
Subaru claims a WLTP driving range of up to 522km, with energy consumption rated at 160Wh/km.
DC fast charging is supported at up to 150kW, allowing the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes under suitable conditions.
The Uncharted also has comparatively strong AC charging capability, accepting up to 7kW on single-phase power and 22kW on three-phase AC.
Subaru says a full charge takes around 12 hours using a 7kW charger or approximately four hours at 22kW. A 2kW portable charging cable for a conventional 10-amp power outlet is supplied with the vehicle.
There is also a 1500W Vehicle-to-Load outlet, allowing the traction battery to power equipment such as portable appliances, lighting and tools.
Electric AWD with off-road capability
While many compact electric SUVs are primarily designed for urban use, Subaru has retained some of the capability traditionally associated with the brand.
Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard, together with Dual-Mode X-Mode, Grip Control and a Multi-Terrain Monitor.
The Uncharted has 211mm of ground clearance, while Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings are designed to manage traction on loose or slippery surfaces.
Grip Control can also maintain a low vehicle speed over difficult terrain, allowing the driver to concentrate on steering.
Three drive modes — Eco, Normal and Power — alter accelerator response, while steering-wheel paddles provide five levels of regenerative braking.
Compact dimensions, practical interior
The Uncharted measures 4,535mm long, 1,870mm wide and 1,625mm high, making it smaller than Subaru’s other electric SUVs.
Its dedicated EV platform provides a flat cabin floor and seating for five, while luggage capacity is 403 litres with the rear seats upright.
A powered tailgate is standard and the 60/40 split-folding rear seats can be reclined or folded to increase cargo capacity.
Inside, a 14-inch touchscreen dominates the dashboard and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
There is also a seven-inch digital instrument display, digital rear-view mirror, two wireless phone chargers and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
Heated front and rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, electrically adjustable front seats and dual-zone climate control are also included in the standard specification.
Full safety package standard
Subaru has bundled its major driver assistance systems into the sole Australian Uncharted variant.
Subaru Safety Sense includes autonomous pre-collision assistance, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, Emergency Steering Assist and Road Sign Assist.
A Driver Monitor System provides distraction and drowsiness warnings, while Vision Assist adds a Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Safe Exit Assist, front and rear parking sensors and a panoramic 360-degree camera.
Another EV Option for Australian Fleets
With a claimed 522km range, standard AWD, 22kW AC charging and more than 250kW of power, the Uncharted adds a different proposition to Australia’s expanding electric SUV market — combining relatively compact dimensions with the performance and all-surface capability Subaru buyers have traditionally expected.
