The finalists in the 2026 Fleet News Group Fleet Sustainability Award have been announced, highlighting three organisations using technology, data and improved fleet management practices to reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency.

While electric vehicles are an important part of each organisation’s sustainability journey, the finalist entries demonstrate that reducing fleet emissions requires much more than changing the powertrain.
Telematics, utilisation data, charging infrastructure, policy changes and driver engagement are all playing a role in helping these fleets make better decisions and manage the transition towards lower-emission transport.

City of Parramatta
The City of Parramatta has adopted a structured, data-driven approach to fleet emissions reduction, using technology to determine where electric vehicles can deliver the best operational and environmental outcomes.
Fleet utilisation data is being analysed to identify vehicles and applications suitable for electrification, helping Council introduce EVs without compromising service delivery.
In FY2026, 22 electric vehicles were introduced, with Council estimating they will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 220 tonnes.
Supporting the vehicles is a scalable EV charging facility integrated with solar generation. The infrastructure has been designed with future fleet expansion in mind while helping minimise energy costs.
Technology forms part of a broader fleet strategy that includes policy reform, infrastructure planning and workforce engagement.
The approach is also delivering financial benefits, with Council reporting $323,000 in procurement and infrastructure savings and ongoing fuel savings of between $4,000 and $6,000 per month.
Blacktown City Council
Blacktown City Council’s City Fleet is using technology and fleet data to improve utilisation while supporting its transition towards low- and zero-emission vehicles.
Telematics provides the fleet team with greater visibility of how vehicles are being used and supports ongoing utilisation reviews and right-sizing decisions.
By understanding where vehicles are travelling, how frequently they are being used and whether assets remain suitable for their operational roles, City Fleet can identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary vehicle use and fuel consumption.
This data-led approach also supports decisions around the introduction of lower-emission vehicles and the infrastructure required to operate them.
Technology is combined with policy integration, stakeholder collaboration and staff engagement to ensure sustainability becomes part of normal fleet management rather than a standalone environmental initiative.
The result is a practical approach that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve resource efficiency while maintaining the service delivery requirements of a large local government fleet.
Allianz
Allianz has set an EV100 goal to replace its fleet vehicles with electric vehicles by the end of 2030 and is using technology to help manage the transition.
Telematics is providing better information on vehicle activity and utilisation, allowing Allianz to actively manage the fleet and identify opportunities to reduce the average kilometres travelled by each vehicle.
The organisation is also actively managing stored vehicles to improve utilisation and reduce unnecessary fleet capacity.
Technology is supporting drivers outside the vehicle as well.
Home charging has been incorporated into the EV transition, along with a reimbursement process designed to manage the cost of employees charging fleet vehicles at home.
Driver engagement is another important element, helping employees adapt to electric vehicles and the different charging and operating requirements that come with them.
Together, these initiatives demonstrate how Allianz is approaching electrification as a fleet management transformation involving vehicles, telematics, charging, utilisation and drivers.
