Chery Group’s newest automotive brand will launch in Australia in October, with the L6 EV bringing a 65kWh battery, 440km WLTP range and a strong technology package into the competitive mid-size electric SUV segment.
A new electric vehicle brand is preparing to enter the Australian market, with Lepas confirming its first local model will be the L6 EV.
For fleet operators, the L6 adds another potential choice to a rapidly expanding pool of electric SUVs, particularly for organisations looking for vehicles that can balance everyday range, charging capability and driver comfort.
Lucas Harris, Chief Operating Officer at Lepas Australia, said the L6 would establish the foundations for the new brand locally.
“The L6 represents an exciting new chapter for our business and marks the arrival of Lepas in Australia,” Harris said.
“The L6 is an important first step for the brand, offering a compelling combination of style, technology, comfort and EV performance in one of Australia’s most competitive vehicle segments.”
65kWh battery delivers claimed 440km range
The L6 EV is powered by a 65kWh lithium iron phosphate battery developed using Chery Group battery technology.
A front-mounted electric motor produces 160kW and 275Nm, with power sent to the front wheels. Lepas claims a WLTP driving range of 440km and energy consumption of 17.5kWh/100km.
DC fast charging can take the battery from 30 to 80 per cent in approximately 22 minutes.
Those figures put the L6 into a range bracket that could suit a variety of metropolitan and regional fleet applications, although whole-of-life costs, real-world efficiency, charging performance and pricing will ultimately determine its fleet competitiveness.
New LEX platform underpins electrification strategy
The L6 is based on Lepas’ new LEX platform, which has been designed to support both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
The architecture combines an advanced electrical system, electric propulsion and intelligent chassis technology, while also providing a platform for future software and technology updates.
That flexibility suggests the L6 will be the beginning of a broader electrified model range as Lepas establishes itself in Australia.
For fleet buyers, the arrival of another Chery Group-backed brand also adds further competition at a time when manufacturers are expanding their EV ranges and targeting higher-volume market segments.
Technology-focused cabin
Inside, the L6 will feature an 8.88-inch digital driver display and 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Other equipment includes an eight-speaker Sony audio system, 50W wireless phone charging, heated and ventilated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, panoramic sunroof and powered tailgate.
The level of standard equipment could be relevant for user-chooser and novated leasing markets, while fleets will be watching closely to see how Lepas structures its Australian specifications and pricing.
Parking and driver-assistance technology
The L6 also includes Automatic Parking Assist, Remote Parking Assist and a 360-degree Around View Monitor.
Its safety and driver-assistance package includes seven airbags, Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Lane Departure Prevention.
For fleet operators, features that simplify parking and low-speed manoeuvring can be particularly useful for pool vehicles and drivers regularly moving between unfamiliar sites or confined urban locations.
Australian debut in September
Australian customers will get their first look at the Lepas L6 EV at Everything Electric at Sydney Olympic Park from 18–20 September.
The vehicle will then officially launch in October 2026, with pricing and further Australian-market details to be announced closer to launch.
The L6 will enter an increasingly crowded electric SUV market, making its eventual pricing, warranty, fleet support and total cost of ownership important factors in determining whether Lepas can win attention from Australian fleet buyers.
