Tesla has announced Vehicle to Load (V2L) capability across all models from October 2026 production, adding the ability to power external electrical equipment from the vehicle’s battery.
The new Model 3 RWD is among the first vehicles to receive the technology, which gives owners another use for their EV beyond transport.
The announcement addresses a feature gap that had attracted criticism from EV enthusiasts, with V2L already an established consideration for buyers wanting to power appliances and equipment away from a fixed electricity supply.
Speaking at Tesla’s Sydney fleet event, Thom Drew, Country Director (Motors) for Australia & New Zealand at Tesla, acknowledged interest in the capability.
“There is customer demand,” Drew said.
He also indicated that customer use would help shape how the feature developed over time.
For fleet operators, V2L adds another factor to vehicle selection. Access to external power could be useful for mobile work, site visits and other duties where equipment needs electricity away from a building.
The rollout also strengthens the practical proposition of the new Model 3 RWD, combining a more accessible entry point into Tesla’s range with functionality that could support both work and recreational use.
Tesla’s announcement applies to vehicles produced from October 2026. Availability for existing vehicles has not been confirmed.
