Škoda Australia has expanded its electrified vehicle lineup with the launch of the new Octavia Hybrid (mHEV) and the plug-in hybrid Superb PHEV, introducing two new options aimed at drivers seeking improved efficiency without fully committing to battery electric vehicles.
The announcement marks a significant step for the brand as it grows its hybrid offering in the Australian market. Both models combine electrified powertrains with the practicality and value positioning that has traditionally defined the Škoda brand.
According to the company, the new Octavia Select Hybrid will start from $43,990 drive-away nationwide, while the larger Superb PHEV arrives with a drive-away price of $66,990.
Octavia Hybrid offers entry point to electrification
The Octavia Select Hybrid (mHEV) will be offered in both liftback and wagon body styles.
Under the bonnet is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that provides electric assistance during acceleration and recovers energy during braking. The powertrain produces 110 kW and is paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission.
Fuel consumption is rated at 5.1L/100km for the liftback and 5.2L/100km for the wagon.
Inside the cabin, the Octavia Hybrid includes features such as dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, keyless entry and an electric tailgate. A 10-inch digital instrument display and a 13-inch infotainment system with satellite navigation form the centrepiece of the dashboard.
Wireless smartphone connectivity, USB-C charging and wireless phone charging are also standard. The model continues Škoda’s “Simply Clever” design approach with practical touches such as a door-mounted umbrella, storage solutions and a double-sided boot mat.
Safety technology includes adaptive cruise control, lane assist with adaptive lane guidance, traffic sign recognition, emergency assist and front cross traffic assist, supported by eight airbags.
Superb PHEV brings longer electric driving range
For buyers looking for greater electrification, the new Superb PHEV introduces plug-in hybrid capability with the ability to drive significant distances on electric power alone.
The system combines a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor for a total system output of 150 kW and 350 Nm of torque.
A 25.7 kWh battery enables a WLTP electric driving range of up to 112 kilometres.
Charging options include:
- AC charging at 11 kW, reaching full charge in around 2.5 hours
- DC fast charging at up to 50 kW, allowing 10–80% charging in approximately 25 minutes
The Superb PHEV is offered in Australia in the well-equipped Select trim level and includes features such as tri-zone climate control, heated front seats, keyless entry with walk-away unlocking and a power tailgate.
The interior combines a 10-inch digital cockpit with a 13-inch infotainment display, along with wireless smartphone mirroring and charging. The vehicle also introduces Škoda’s Smart Dial interface for controlling key functions.
Exterior highlights include 19-inch alloy wheels, metallic paint, tinted rear glass and illuminated branding. Driving dynamics are supported by Dynamic Chassis Control, progressive steering and selectable driving profiles.
Safety systems are extensive and include predictive adaptive cruise control, crossroad assist, collision avoidance assist and a total of ten airbags.
Expanding electrified choices
Lucie Kuhn, Brand Director for Škoda Australia, said the new models are designed to make electrified motoring easier for Australian buyers.
“Australians want simpler, smarter ways to go electric. Our new Škoda Octavia Hybrid and Škoda Superb PHEV combine long-range practicality with outstanding standard equipment, supported by sharp national drive-away pricing and Škoda’s seven-year warranty,” Kuhn said.
Superb PHEV models have already arrived in Australia and are expected to reach dealerships in the coming weeks, with Octavia Hybrid deliveries scheduled to follow next month.
The two models signal Škoda’s continued push to broaden its electrified lineup, offering hybrid and plug-in hybrid options alongside its growing battery electric vehicle portfolio.
