BYD is expanding its electric vehicle line-up in Australia with two brand-new models — the ATTO 1 and ATTO 2 — ahead of their official debut on 13 November.
The pair mark the next phase in BYD’s push to make EV ownership more accessible, combining the brand’s signature Blade Battery technology, smart interiors, and sleek design at price points aimed squarely at everyday drivers.
ATTO 1: Australia’s next affordable EV
Tipped to become Australia’s most affordable electric car, the ATTO 1 brings proven global credentials. Known overseas as the BYD Dolphin Surf in Europe and BYD Seagull in China, it has already sold over one million units and collected multiple awards — including 2025 World Urban Car of the Year and a place in TIME Magazine’s Best Inventions of 2025.
Two grades — Essential and Premium — will be offered:
- Essential: 65kW / 175Nm, 30kWh Blade Battery, up to 220km range (WLTP)
- Premium: 115kW / 220Nm, 43.2kWh Blade Battery, up to 310km range (WLTP)
Both versions feature front-wheel drive, DC fast charging (10–80% in 30 minutes), and a tidy list of comfort and safety equipment, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless phone integration, synthetic leather trim, six airbags, and BYD’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
The ATTO 1 is aimed squarely at city commuters and urban families looking for a fuss-free way to go electric — whether it’s zipping to work, doing the school run, or heading across town for the weekend.
ATTO 2: Compact SUV with smart sophistication
Sitting above the ATTO 1, the new ATTO 2 enters the compact SUV space — a segment where practicality meets lifestyle appeal.
Power comes from a 130kW / 290Nm electric motor paired with BYD’s 51.3kWh Blade Battery, offering up to 345km of WLTP range. DC charging from 10–80% takes around 39 minutes, with a peak rate of 82kW.
Buyers can choose between Dynamic and Premium variants. The Premium turns things up with a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen (versus 10.1-inch in Dynamic), 360° camera, heated and ventilated seats, and an 8-speaker sound system. The ATTO 2 also provides up to 1,320L of boot space, plus BYD’s DiPilot driver-assist suite as standard.
It’s designed for Australians who want an EV that’s both efficient and family-ready — the kind of SUV that handles weekday commutes just as comfortably as weekend getaways.
Making electric mobility mainstream
“At BYD, our goal has always been to bring advanced EV technology to the masses,” said Stephen Collins, BYD Australia COO.
“It’s not just the pricing that has a real wow factor for these vehicles, but the sheer level of technology and innovative features that present real value for money.”
Expressions of interest for the ATTO 1 and ATTO 2 are now open, with orders expected to begin mid-November.
Why it matters for Fleet Managers and novated buyers
For Fleet Managers, the ATTO 1 could redefine the entry-level EV benchmark — a cost-effective, low-maintenance option with proven global reliability. The ATTO 2, meanwhile, provides more range and practicality for mixed-use roles, from pool vehicles to executive transport.
For novated lease buyers, both models land at a sweet spot: zero FBT, affordable running costs, and BYD’s reputation for efficiency and innovation.
BYD’s message is clear: electric driving doesn’t have to be exclusive. With the ATTO 1 and ATTO 2, Australia’s EV market is about to get a serious jolt of competition — and affordability.
