Suzuki has confirmed pricing and specifications for its first fully electric SUV in Australia, the Suzuki e VITARA, with pre-orders now open ahead of deliveries starting in July 2026.
The headline number is a sub-$50,000 drive-away entry point, with the front-wheel drive Motion variant priced from $46,990 for the first 100 customers, rising to $49,990 thereafter. The all-wheel drive Ultra variant starts at $56,990 drive-away, increasing to $58,990 once the launch allocation is exhausted.
A familiar nameplate, new powertrain
The Vitara badge has been part of the Australian market since the 1980s, helping define the compact SUV category. This new electric version represents a significant shift for Suzuki, combining its traditional strengths in lightweight engineering and simplicity with battery electric technology.
Rather than repositioning the vehicle, Suzuki has kept the core Vitara DNA intact — practical size, everyday usability and light off-road capability — but applied it to an EV platform.
Two variants, two use cases
The range is split into two clear fleet-relevant options:
- Motion (2WD)
- 49kWh battery
- 344km driving range
- Focus on urban and suburban use
- Ultra (AWD)
- 61kWh battery
- 395km driving range
- Dual-motor system with ALLGRIP-e for improved traction
The Ultra’s all-wheel drive system and higher torque output (307Nm vs 193Nm) position it as the more versatile option for regional fleets or those requiring light off-road capability.
Platform and performance
Underpinning the e VITARA is Suzuki’s new HEARTECT-e platform, designed specifically for EVs. It focuses on:
- Maximising cabin space within compact dimensions
- Improving structural rigidity
- Enhancing crash energy absorption
The dual-motor AWD system in the Ultra enables active torque distribution between axles, while selectable driving modes (Normal, Eco, Sport, plus Snow and Trail modes) give drivers some flexibility depending on conditions.
Practical specs for fleet buyers
From a fleet perspective, the e VITARA sits in a familiar footprint:
- Length: 4,275mm
- Ground clearance: 180mm
- Turning circle: 5.2m
- Seating: 5
Charging times are competitive for the segment, with DC fast charging delivering 10–80% in around 45 minutes across both variants.
Safety and ownership package
The e VITARA carries a 4-star ANCAP safety rating (based on European testing) and includes a full suite of active safety features such as:
- Autonomous Emergency Braking
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Lane Keeping Assist
- Blind Spot Monitoring
Suzuki is also backing the vehicle with:
- 5-year/100,000km service program
- 8-year/160,000km battery warranty
These inclusions will be important for fleet buyers assessing whole-of-life cost and risk.
Market positioning: value-led EV entry
The key story here is price.
At under $50,000 drive-away, the e VITARA positions itself as one of the more accessible electric SUVs in the Australian market, particularly from an established brand with an existing dealer network.
Michael Pachota, General Manager – Automobile at Suzuki Australia, said the pricing strategy is designed to meet growing demand for affordable EVs while maintaining the brand’s reputation for reliability and practicality.
What it means for fleets
For Fleet Managers, the e VITARA is less about pushing the boundaries of EV performance and more about removing barriers to entry.
- The price point makes it viable for broader fleet rollout, not just pilot programs
- The compact size suits pool vehicles, local government and urban operations
- The AWD option provides flexibility for mixed-use fleets
- The ownership package supports predictable operating costs
It’s not trying to compete with premium EVs. Instead, it targets the mainstream fleet buyer who needs a practical, known quantity — now with zero tailpipe emissions.
That’s likely where it will find its place in the market.
