The City of Parramatta has been named a finalist in the 2026 Fleet News Group Fleet Sustainability Award, with judges recognising its structured and practical approach to fleet electrification and the strong commercial outcomes being delivered alongside emissions reduction.
The Fleet Sustainability Award recognises organisations demonstrating that environmental improvement can be integrated into effective fleet management and operational decision-making.
City of Parramatta stood out during the judging process for the way it has brought together fleet policy, data, charging infrastructure, employee engagement and vehicle procurement into a coordinated EV transition program.
The Council introduced 22 electric vehicles during FY2026 and reported an estimated annual reduction of 220 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
Importantly, the transition is also delivering financial benefits.
Parramatta reported $323,000 in procurement and infrastructure savings together with fuel savings of approximately $4,000 to $6,000 per month.
Judges highlighted Parramatta’s ability to identify and communicate these commercial benefits as a particular strength of the submission.
Its approach to charging infrastructure also differentiated the program.
The Council has developed scalable charging infrastructure to support its growing EV fleet, including solar integration, and is continuing to plan additional charging capacity as the fleet transitions.
Fleet utilisation analysis is being used to determine which vehicles are suitable for electrification, while changes to fleet policy have embedded emissions considerations into procurement and operational decisions.
Parramatta has also addressed one of the less technical challenges associated with fleet electrification — employee acceptance.
EV drive days, education and engagement have been used to give staff experience with the vehicles and reduce resistance to the transition.
The Council is working towards an all-electric passenger fleet by 2030 and has introduced procurement settings designed to progressively reduce vehicle emissions.
Fleet News Group Managing Editor Marc Sibbald said the industry voting stage represented an important moment for the inaugural Fleet News Group Awards.

The finalist selection is now complete and industry voting is open.
Fleet, automotive and transport professionals will determine which organisation wins the 2026 Fleet Sustainability Award, giving the industry a direct role in recognising excellence among its peers.
The winner will be announced at the Fleet News Group Awards on 14 October 2026 in Sydney.
