Chery Group’s new SUV brand, Lepas, has confirmed its first all-electric model will launch in Australia later this year, adding another contender to the growing mid-size electric SUV market.
The Lepas L6 BEV is scheduled to arrive in quarter four as part of the brand’s local expansion plans. It will be positioned as a design-led electric SUV with a focus on technology, comfort and everyday practicality.
For Australian buyers, the L6 will enter one of the most competitive segments in the new vehicle market. Mid-size SUVs remain popular with private buyers, families and novated lease customers, while electric models are becoming an increasingly important part of the segment as more brands introduce battery electric options.
Lepas says the L6 has been developed with contemporary styling, intelligent connectivity and refined driving comfort. The exterior features slim LED lighting signatures and a modern SUV stance, while the cabin uses a minimalist “less is more” design approach.
Inside, the L6 will feature a panoramic glass roof and a spacious cabin designed to improve comfort for both drivers and passengers. Lepas is also promoting the use of premium materials and a focus on technology as part of the vehicle’s appeal.
Power will come from an electric drivetrain producing up to 160kW and 275Nm. The L6 is expected to offer an estimated driving range of 450 kilometres, which should place it within the typical daily and weekly usage needs of many Australian households and salary packaged drivers.
Lucas Harris, Chief Operating Officer at Lepas Australia, said the L6 marked an important step for the new brand.
“The Lepas L6 represents an exciting new chapter for our business and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to bringing innovative, technology-driven vehicles to Australian customers,” said Harris.
“As demand for electric vehicles continues to grow locally, the Lepas L6 will offer Australian buyers a compelling combination of sophisticated design, intelligent features and everyday usability within the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment.”
The arrival of the L6 will also expand Chery Group’s electrified vehicle footprint in Australia. Chery has been growing its local presence with a range of SUV models, and Lepas gives the group another brand platform to target buyers looking for style, technology and electrified mobility.
For fleet and novated lease buyers, the final pricing and specification will be critical. The electric SUV market is becoming increasingly price sensitive, particularly as more Chinese brands bring competitive EV models to Australia.
